The Colombian singer is Google's most-searched artist for this year. There could be a lot of factors why Shakira owned the spot and the most searched artist this year. This just means that Latin music and artists definitely influenced the music industry this year.

One of the most iconic moments this year is the Superbowl Halftime show where the majority of the performers were Latinas and Latinos. The stars of that day were Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, who did not only perform, but also represented their roots, their Latin culture.

After their performance, it led to many searches on Google about Shakira. No one expected that at her age, she can still perform just like other young artists. Her Superbowl performance had helped her to have a strong start this year along with another Latina, Jennifer Lopez.

According to We Are Mitu, the Superbowl got people's attention and they were stunned as the Latina artists owning the stage. Though it was not the first time that Latinas performed in the Superbowl but the production itself is simply the best so far.

Shakira's Performance Both Embraced and Criticized

After Shakira and Jennifer Lope performed, the FCC received thousands of calls complaining that their performance was overly sexual. It could be because of the booty-shaking that only Shakira and Jennifer Lopez could do. But either way, this brought a lot of attention to Shakira and Jennifer Lopez.

Shakira's performance was not only being discussed in the U.S. or even in Latin American countries but it became trending worldwide. She became an inspiration not only for young Latin artists but also for those who aspire to become just like her.

In fact, Shakira is more searched on Google followed by August Alsina, Adele, Doja Cat, and Grimes, who made up the rest of the top 5. In a Twitter post of Shakira News, the Colombian artist shared Google's 'Year in Search' lists in 2010 & 2020.

It is believed that Shakira became the most-searched artist on Google this year because of their Superbowl performance. It was also the last and biggest stage performance of artists before the country went into months of lockdown due to the pandemic.

Shakira has been rocking everyone's ears for years. There is no year that we have not enjoyed dancing to her music either they are in English or Spanish. From "Ciega, Sordomuda" to "Whenever, Wherever" to "La Bicicleta," everyone loves to hear her music.
