WWE Wrestlemania 2021 Backlash: Roman Reigns, Bobby Lashley, and Bianca Belair Retain Title
The recent WWE Wrestlemania 2021 Backlash showcased matched that wowed the fans on a Sunday night. The event concluded and hailed Romans Reigns still the WWE Champion after putting up a great match with Cesaro. Apart from Roman Reigns, Bobby Lashley and Bianca Belair retained their titles, while Ray and Dominic won the Smackdown tag titles.
CBS reported that the show on Sunday night was a continued fallout from April's massive two-night Wrestlemania extravaganza. Only one title changed in the five championship bouts that made up most of the action in the recent event.
WWE Recap and Ratings on Championship Bouts
Because the bouts wowed the fans due to the performance the players have shown, here are the highlights of the event that caused a major uproar.
Roman Reigns vs. Cesaro
Roman Reigns defended his title against Cesaro in the WWE Wrestlemania 2021 Backlash during the universal championship match. Reigns defeated his opponent through submission when he made Cesaro pass out with his guillotine choke. Reigns also threw his opponent out of the ring and worked out on the challenger's arm throughout the second bout of the match.
After the match between Cesaro and Reigns concluded, Jay Uso came to the ring and attacked Cesaro. The show ended with Seth Rollins hitting a curb stomp on Cesaro and posing in the ring. The match gathered a four-star rating and a Grade A+.
Bianca Belair vs. Bayley
In the Smackdown Women's Championship, Bayley competed against Bianca Belair for the title. However, Belair did not allow the challenger to dominate her. Belair retained her title by pinning Bayley with a roll-up and leveraging the move by hooking Bayley's braid on the challenger's legs. The match between Belair and Bayler garnered a rating of B+.
CBS noted that the match was a good "palate cleanser" after the match that featured zombies as an advertisement for Batista's new movie "Army of the Dead."
Bobby Lashley vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Braun Strowman
Bobby Lashley defended his title and won against Drew McIntyre and Braun Strowman for the WWE Championship title. At the beginning of the match, Lashley and McIntrye teamed up against Strowman, then brawl with each other outside the ring. As McIntyre and Lashley were fighting, Strowman crashed to both the players with a flipping senton of the apron.
McIntyre then threw Lashley to the LED boards. The match concluded when McIntrye clocked Strowman with a claymore kick, then Lashley tossing McIntire out and hit a spear on Strowman. The show gathered four stars WWE ratings and grade A-minus.
Rey and Dominik Mysterio vs. Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler
The match for the SmackDown tag team Championship began when Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler attacked and injured Dominik Mysterio backstage while he was in the trainer's room. Because of this, Rey Mysterio competed alone against their two opponents.
Roode and Ziggler were focusing on Mysterio's left leg to ground him and avoid the flying attacks. Surprisingly, Dominik entered the ring in the last stretch of turning the tables around when he superkick onto Ziggler. Rey then was tagged in, hit a 619 against Roode, then tagged Dominik and took Ziggler outside the ring, hitting a frog lash and sealed the match. The show gathered WWE ratings of 2.25 stars and grade B.
CBS noted that the top champions of WWE Wrestlemania 2021 Backlash are now solidified as their promotion moves to Hell in a Cell, June's pay-per-view event of WWE.
