Chase Elliott Earns Historic Win at NASCAR Texas Grand Prix
The defending Cup Series champion Chase Elliott conquered a new territory after the road warrior won the Inaugural EchoPark Texas Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas, making his fifth victory in the last six road-course races.
Kyle Larson finished second, while Joey Logano took the third spot in the race.
Chase Elliott and His Historic Win
The first victory of the season and the 12th in Elliott's career were accounted for significant milestones. Elliott currently has a record of 268 Cup wins under Hendrick Motorsports, which is tied to the record of Petty Enterprises' most Cup wins of all time. The win also marks the 800th NASCAR Cup Series victory for Chevrolet, ESPN reported.
In addition, the organization secured the top two spots at the 3.41-mile, 20-turn road course, with Kyle Larson running second when NASCAR red-flagged the event 54 of a planned 68 and then called it when the rain failed to be moderate. Last week, Hendrick drivers also finished 1-2-3-4 at Dover International Speedway.
Rain Race at Circuit of the Americas
The Texas Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas in Austin was called off early because of the rain and low visibility, which is an experience that only a number of racers had. The wet and wild NASCAR experience, due to the excessive standing water on the track, posed a potential danger to the drivers.
According to NASCAR.com, the reigning Cup champion, Chase Elliott, stated that he could not be more excited because he never won a rain race before. He also added that it is cool to win, and he is super proud of his team for continuing the fight. Elliott is already tied with Rusty Wallace on the third spot for most road-course wins of all-time.
Moreover, Elliott shared that they tried to start the day right, but it went on the opposite end. He said that he just kept pushing himself and made some good decisions out of chances throughout the day. That is why they got to the pace that they want. He also commended his guys who were there at the end of the day.
Furthermore, with a high-speed backstretch, challenging visibility on the long, a crash on Lap 25 brought the race to a halt for the first time. While the racers slowed in traffic, Martin Truex Jr. banged into the back of the Ford of Michael McDowell.
Also, the Ford of Cole Custer plowed into the back of the damaged Toyota of Truex because of a chain reaction. It lifted the rear of the Camry off the pavement. Custer's Ford then hit the Armco barrier to the inside of the straight. Custer quickly exited the crippled Mustang, which lit on fire, USA Today reported.
During his trip to the infield care center, Custer said that he is all good and did not hurt as much as he thought it was going to be. But he added it is just that you cannot see anything, even a foot in front of the car. The NASCAR red-flagged the race and sent track dryers out to remove water from the racing surface.
