Gable Steveson Plans to Join WWE After Olympics, Dreams to Be Roman Reigns’ Successor
After he recently won the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship in the heavyweight division, Gable Steveson wanted to become at the level of Roman Reigns in the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
The 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials winner and the reigning Pan American Continental champion also mentioned the potential of joining the company after the Summer Olympics, according to 411 Mania.
Gable Stevenson on Meeting Roman Reigns
Gable Steveson told KARE 11 in Minneapolis that meeting Roman Reigns was a surreal feeling. He also said that he wanted to be in the spot for Reigns to pass the torch to him.
Stevenson noted that Reigns is one of the guys that he always wanted to meet besides Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. He also shared that he already met Brock Lesnar, who is on the list of individuals that he always wanted to meet too.
Gable Stevenson also shared that Roman Reigns is the guy that he idolized because of the things that he has done in the WWE and his life.
Stevenson also emphasized how Reigns lives and breathes differently compared to a lot of people. He noted that Reigns always wanted to be a winner, a champion.
He also said that Roman Reigns is the top of the top for him. The 21-year-old heavyweight champion then stated that he hoped, sooner or later, it will be his time in that spot. And Stevenson also hoped that Reigns will hand over his belt to him when he is ready.
When asked if he will be joining WWE if he wins gold at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Gable Stevenson said it is all in the air right now.
He noted that he wanted to focus first on the Olympics because he wanted the Tokyo gold first. Stevenson also said that joining WWE is "in the near future" as he still does not know exactly when will it happen.
"I'll be there," he noted.
Gable Steveson as Future WWE Signee
Gable Steveson, the 275-pound junior from the University of Minnesota wrestler celebrated by doing a back-flip on the mat after winning the NCAA championship.
He then later waived to WWE CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon on social media. McMahon took notice of it. McMahon's original next big thing, Brock Lesnar, also won an NCAA Division I championship in the heavyweight division for the same institution, the University of Minnesota.
Steveson's older brother, Bobby Stevenson, who is another top-notch amateur wrestler, recently worked out at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando.
The Steveson brothers can be future WWE signees because the Steiner brothers did it in the past. Rick Steiner's son, Bronson Rechsteiner, is already turning heads at the WWE PC.
Gable Steveson, who a longtime WWE fan, is very much interested in becoming a WWE superstar but he is not rushing things right now.
For Gable Stevenson, first things first. After he became the second Gopher to win the Dan Hodge Trophy, which is given to the nation's top collegiate wrestler, Steveson focuses on the Team USA after recently qualifying for the U.S. Olympic wrestling team.
As part of Team USA, Gable Stevenson will be competing in the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo with gold medal aspirations, Miami Herald reported.
