Former Philippine President "Noynoy" Aquino III, Passed Away

Former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, on Thursday, June 24, Philippine time (Wednesday evening, June 23 EST), passed away at the age of 61. The death of the former President was confirmed by the former interior secretary, Manuel Roxas II, in a statement, according to a report from The Manila Times.

Inquirer reported that former President Aquino was reported to be rushed to the hospital also on Thursday morning. His former runningmate and former senator Roxas and Jose Rene Almendras were also reported to be in the hospital the former President was rushed into.

"PNoy [Noynoy Aquino] RIP [rest in peace]," said Roxas in a statement. Roxas also urged to pray for the former President of the Philippines.

Initial reports revealed that former President "Noynoy" Aquino was brought to Capitol Medical Center location in Quezon, City, Philippines. However, the reason why he was rushed to the hospital was not revealed.

Since 2019, Aquino has suffered from various illnesses, according to a report from Rappler. Furthermore, the former President also underwent a heart operation, as well as five months of dialysis.

Aquino's sister, Pinky Aquino-Abellada confirmed Thursday afternoon, that the former president died due to renal disease secondary to diabetes. Aquino-Abellada also revealed that Aquino died at 6:30 in the morning, while the former chief executive was sleeping.


"Mission accomplished, Noy, be happy now with dad and mom," said Aquino's sister in front of the Philippine press. The family of the former president of the Philippines also expressed their gratitude to his supporters.
Colleagues of the former President expressed their sympathies on the sudden death of Aquino, including the vice president of the Philippines, Leni Robredo.


"The news about PNoy's passing is heartbreaking. He was a good friend and a loyal president," said Leni Robredo. Robredo also noted that Aquino worked hard and silently to help the Filipinos. The Vice president also offered her sympathies to Aquino's family.

Former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III Administration

Noynoy Aquino was elected as the President of the Republic of the Philippines in 2010 and was the only son of the country's icons of democracy, former President Corazon Aquino and former Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. Noynoy's father was known to first enter the politics as a member of the House of Representative for the second district of Tarlac in 1998.

In 2012, former President Noynoy Aquino went to Washington to negotiate about the expanded presence of the U.S. Military in the Philippines. Furthermore, the U.S. State Department also insisted that the meeting with Aquino at that time did not focus on the reestablishment of U.S. military bases in the Philippines but instead tackled activities such as training and search and rescue.

Before his passing, former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III also served as a senator from 2007 to 2010.
