A TikTok video caught the attention of many netizens as it showed an American Airlines passenger duct-taped to an airplane seat.

Business Insider reported that the gray-haired woman was duct-taped to her seat after she allegedly attacked flight attendants and tried to open the American Airlines plane's front door.

The TikTok video was filmed by TikTok user @lol.ariee, and it happened on American Airlines Flight 1774. The said plane was heading to Charlotte, North Carolina from Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas on Tuesday, July 6.

In the TikTok video, the American Airlines passenger can be seen with duct tape around her body and mouth as she tried to scream to other passengers exiting the plane after it landed.

A follow-up video from the same TikTok user explained that the commotion began one hour into the two-hour flight, Business Insider reported.

At that time, the TikTok user said the flight attendants started whispering to each other, running back and forth at the aisles, locking bathrooms, and grabbing bags from overhead bins. However, they did not say what exactly was happening.

The TikTok user said that the lights were suddenly turned on at around 1:30 a.m., and the chaos began. The pilot then spoke over the intercom and said there's "a bad situation in the plane right now" and asked the passengers to remain in their seats.

As the plane was about to land, the TikTok user said a flight attendant sitting near them explained the situation and told them that the American Airlines passenger, who was restrained, had an outburst.

The flight attendant also told them that the woman went up to the exits and started banging on the doors, saying she needs to get out of the plane.

The TikTok user believed that what was happening at that time seemed like it was beyond the woman's control as she "was scared."

"They should have a better way of going about it... I feel like it was handled poorly," she noted.

American Airlines confirmed to the New York Post the incident and said that the passenger assaulted and bit a flight attendant after attempting to open the plane's forward boarding door.

The airline further noted that the woman was restrained to her seat "for the security and of other customers" and their crew. The said TikTok video has already garnered more than 4 million views.

American Airlines Passengers Ordered to 'Put Hands Up' During Flight

On another flight, American Airlines passengers were instructed to keep their hands on their heads for the final hour of their flight and warned the passengers not to film due to a security threat, Daily Mail reported.

The incident happened on American Airlines flight 2289 flying to Miami International Airport from Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday, July 8.

The passengers were told to remain in their seats with their hands crossed on top of their heads. A passenger aboard the Boeing 777 claimed that a male passenger was labeled a "security threat."

A passenger, who defied the order and filmed the incident, said law enforcement with machine guns came on the flight to arrest the unruly passenger. Despite the video posted on social media, Daily Mail reported that American Airlines refused to confirm the allegations.

Violence on Flights Skyrockets

A spokesman from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) noted that airlines reported about 3,000 cases of disruptive passengers since January 1, according to the Time.

The FAA noted that about 2,300 cases from the 3,000 involved passengers who do not want to wear face masks during their flights.

In a letter sent by trade group Airlines for America to the FAA, the group acknowledged that the "vast majority of passengers" comply with the rules.

However, they still witness "onboard behavior" that results in heinous actions such as assaults and threats and intimidation of crewmembers that endangers the safety and everyone aboard.
