Luis Guzmán Cast as Gomez Addams in Tim Burton’s ‘Wednesday’ Series at Netflix
Puerto Rican actor Luiz Guzmán will play the role of Gomez Addams in Netflix's upcoming spin-off of "The Addams Family" entitled "Wednesday."
Luiz Guzmán will join "Yes Day" star Jenna Ortega, who will play the titular role of Wednesday in the live-action series that will be available on the video streaming behemoth's platform.
In "The Addams Family" franchise, it can be recalled that Gomez Addams is the patriarch and father of Wednesday.
Luis Guzmán Plays Gomez Addams in the Netflix Live-Action 'Wednesday' Series
According to Deadline, Guzmán will play the role of the iconic character but will appear on the live-action series as a guest star.
Guzmán was not the first actor to play the iconic role of Gomez Addams. Variety reported that actors Raul Julia, John Astin, and Tim Curry have also played the role in a live-action version. Oscar Isaac also voiced the character for the animated "Addams Family" that was released in 2019.
Aside from his upcoming role as the patriarch of the Addams Family, Guzmán played several other characters as a veteran actor. The Puerto Rican actor was known for his films "Traffic," "The Taking of Pelham 123," and "Carlito's Way."
He also appeared in multiple films by Paul Thomas Anderson, such as "Magnolia" and "Punch Drunk Love." Luis Guzmán also appeared in several television shows like "Shameless."
So far, Guzmán and Ortega are the only confirmed actors known to be in the live-action series "Wednesday."
Tim Burton's Live-Action Series 'Wednesday' at Netflix
The story of "Wednesday" will surround Wednesday Addams and her adventures while she's a student at the Nevermore Academy. The said academy was known to be a boarding school located in the deepest of New England.
In the series, Wednesday would attempt to master her psychic ability while facing a monster that terrorizes the local town and solving the mystery that involved her parents 25 years ago.
Jenna Ortega already starred in multiple original series on Netflix. Apart from being renowned in the video streaming behemoth's original contents, Ortega was also known to voice "Brooklyn" in the animated series of the Jurassic Park franchise entitled "Camp Cretaceous."
Although Ortega and Gomez were confirmed to appear in the series, details regarding the appearance of other members of the Addams family were not provided by the creators.
Details about the release of the said series on Netflix were also unclear as it is still in the process of casting, What's-on-Netflix noted. However, Netflix confirmed that the first season of "Wednesday" will be composed of eight episodes.
Just like the epic "The Addams Family," Tim Burton will direct and executive produce Netflix's "Wednesday. The series will be written by Al Gough and Miles Millar.
The production studio behind the upcoming Burton series was reported to be MGM TV. The release of the series will mark Burton's historic television directorial debut.
