The Bachelor Online & Millionaire Matchmaker: Adam Winters Arrested for Extortion
Adam Winters, the 25 year-old "millionaire" who appeared on Bravo's hit show, "Millionaire Matchmaker," isn't quite as wealthy as he let on during the show.
In fact, the Daily Mail reported that Winters was recently arrested for attempting to extort $5 million from a nuclear facility.
On the matchmaker show, Winter claimed to be worth over $1 million. The NY Daily News reported that he even described himself as a motorcycle-driving millionaire CEO, living in posh Beverly Hills.
But the reality is that he can't even afford a lawyer for his latest scandal, according to The Smoking Gun.
On May 23, Winters' name was mentioned in a criminal complaint that accused the questionable millionaire of trying to extort $5 million by threatening to go public with documents that he claimed showed negligent practices at a federal nuclear materials facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Law enforcement officials have obtained an email that Winters wrote to the nuclear facility on May 8.
In the email, Winters allegedly wrote that he has 1,200 slides and documentation that addressed the alarming amounts of radiation use on animals and plants in the nuclear facility. He also threatened to release the documentation if he was not given his money.
Though Winters may have thought he had the upper hand in his extortion scheme, things quickly fell apart for the 25-year-old con artist after he unknowingly revealed his plans of extortion to an undercover agent.
TSG reported that Winters met with an undercover agent on May 20 and explained, "If I were to release two slides a week, I could do this for years and years. ... Or you could just pay up front, and it never happened and it just disappears."
Winters was later arrested last Friday after meeting with the undercover agent again. This time, he brought the slides along with him.
The Daily Mail reported that Winters is scheduled for a June 6 preliminary hearing in U.S. District Court in Knoxville. When contacted by TSG, he denied knowing about the case and put the phone down.
