Wolverine May Appear in 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,' But Will Hugh Jackman Return for the Marvel Project?
Marvel Studios has released the latest trailer of "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" during the Super Bowl, and some fans speculate Wolverine will make an appearance.
The new trailer revealed plenty of details from the highly-anticipated sequel. Considering Marvel's history of secrecy and cryptic marketing, fans speculate and assume this is only the tip of the iceberg.
Fans wonder who may be joining Benedict Cumberbatch's Sorcerer for his latest adventure amid reports of a Multiverse Illuminati and an appearance from Patrick Stewart's Professor X in the new trailer. Recent rumors suggested that Professor X may not be the only mutant character included.
The Illuminerdi's Joseph Deckelmeier recently tweeted that Wolverine will also appear in "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness." However, Deckelmeier noted that Hugh Jackman would not be the actor to play the role.
With Charles Xavier having already been revealed in the trailer, the Adamantium Mutant would be the second member of X-Men to join Marvel Studios' Multiverse blockbuster that will hit theaters on May 6.
Who Will Play Wolverine in 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?'
Hugh Jackman's Wolverine has been at the top of many fans' wish lists since rumors of past characters returning in the Doctor Strange sequel circulated.
From X-Men (2000) to Logan (2017), the Australian actor played the mutant hero in 11 films spanning 17 years and has become synonymous with Wolverine.
With Marvel Studios currently developing a reboot of the '90s X-Men animated series, the studio, without a doubt, asked Jackman to reprise his role, but he may have declined to return, according to The Direct.
Without Jackman, reports said actors who had been linked to the Wolverine role include former Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe and Kingsman's actor Taron Egerton.
Marvel would naturally have to cast a live-action actor with the Wolverine role with his animated voice, Cal Dodd, who bears no similarity to Wolverine himself.
This could be a great opportunity to honor one of the many fan castings for the character, which the studio does not intend to pursue in the inevitable reboot.
In the new Multiverse of Madness trailer, fans saw Doctor Strange falling off into a forest, which is rumored to be "Savage Land" in Marvel Comics.
The jungle location has been associated with the X-Men and Wolverine for some time, making it a feasible site for a new variant of Jackman to emerge.
Possibility of Comic-Accurate Wolverine In Live-Action
Alternatively, an all-new Wolverine could be right around the corner, with Charles Xavier expected to finally utter the fabled term "mutant" for the first time in the MCU.
If Multiverse of Madness is to finally introduce the mutants into the MCU, it could also be the first appearance of some new X-Men actors, who would lead the reboot.
While many will be disappointed to learn that Hugh Jackman will not be returning his classic X-Men character for a Multiverse cameo, this might be the first time audiences could see a comic-accurate Wolverine in live-action.
After all, comic readers have been waiting decades to see the mutant character in his iconic yellow suit on the big screen.
