Ivanka Trump in Talks To Appear ‘Voluntarily’ Before January 6 House Select Committee
Ivanka Trump is in talks to "voluntarily" appear before the House Select Committee tapped to investigate the January 6 insurrection in the U.S. Capitol.
According to CBS News, a spokesperson for the daughter of former President Donald Trump confirmed the move on Wednesday.
"Ivanka Trump is in discussions with the committee to voluntarily appear for an interview," the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson for Ivanka Trump did not further on the details regarding her "voluntary" appearance before the House Select Committee.
Sources familiar with the said discussions also said Ivanka has not yet agreed on a date for when she might speak before the committee, The Guardian reported. The outlet furthered that the House Select Committee has not made any subpoena threat against the daughter of the former president.
If her appearance is confirmed, Ivanka Trump will be one of the closest allies of Ex-President Donald Trump to appear before the January 6 panel.
Ivanka Trump Receives Letter From House Select Committee
The spokesperson's revelation on Ivanka's possible appearance before the panel came weeks after the daughter of the former president received a letter from the House Select Committee that requests her to appear before them in connection to the Capitol insurrection.
The letter - sent by Chairman Bennie Thompson - alleged that the committee has evidence that Ivanka Trump was in "direct contact" with her father on the day of the riot, per NBC News.
The letter also stated that the committee believed that Ivanka was present at the White House on January 6 and in the oval office when the former president made a phone call with then-Vice President Mike Pence.
The letter sent to Trump also indicated that multiple White House staff sought her help to request assistance and persuade then-President Trump to address the "lawlessness and violence" on the Capitol that day, per CBS News.
Ivanka Trump's spokesperson addressed the letter sent by Thompson last month, contending that Trump's daughter did not speak on the January 6 rally and that Ivanka put out a call to the public to stop the violence when it started.
Rudy Giuliani To Cooperate With January 6 Panel
Talks of Ivanka Trump's voluntary appearance before the House Select Committee came as former President Donald Trump's attorney, Rudy Giuliani, is expected to cooperate with the January 6 panel, per The Guardian.
According to multiple sources briefed on the matter, the move concerning Giuliani could be agreed upon within weeks.
Reports underscored that Giuliani is prepared to reveal his contacts and the roles played by the members of the Republican Congress in the scheme to have Vice President Mike Pence stop the certification of Joe Biden's victory in the presidential elections.
The Guardian also underscored that Giuliani could speak about the events on the December 2020 meeting in the Oval Office, where the former president reviewed a draft executive order to seize voting machines.
Giuliani is not the only Trump ally that is sought by the House Select committee to speak before them. It can be recalled that the January 6 panel also issued subpoenas to Jenna Ellis, Sidney Powell, and Boris Epshteyn. All three were known to seek in overturning the 2020 presidential election results.
