In a tweet, Zelenskyy extended his "heartfelt condolences" to Renaud's family, claiming that the journalist died "while documenting the ruthlessness & evil upon Ukrainian people by Russia."

"The people of Ukraine, who are fighting against the Russian regime to defend their Homeland and democracy in the world, are mourning with you," Zelenskyy underscored in his letter.

Zelenskyy then expressed gratitude for Renaud's "professionalism and commitment" to several values, such as justice, ethics, and compassion.

Zelenskyy ended his letter by saying that he hopes Brent's death would serve as an inspiration for people to stand and fight for what is right.

U.S. Journalist Killed In Ukraine

Zelenskyy's letter came a day after Renaud, who was working for Time, was reported dead after he was shot outside of Kyiv, per BBC.

According to Kyiv's police chief, Andriy Nebytov, the 50-year-old journalist had been targeted by Russian soldiers as he was shot in the town of Irpin. Two other journalists were also injured following the shooting and they were taken to a hospital.

Juan Arredondo, one of the injured reporters, said that the shooting occurred on one of the bridges in Irpin as they were going to film other leaving refugees.

"Somebody offered to take us to the other bridge and we crossed a checkpoint, and they start shooting at us. So the driver turned around, and they kept shooting," Arredondo said.

Arredondo added that he saw Renaud shot in the neck and he was left behind.

U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told CBS "Face The Nation" that consequences will be brought following Renaud's death, per New York Post.

"I will be consulting with my colleagues, will be consulting with Ukrainians, to determine how this happened and then to measure and execute appropriate consequences as a result of it," Sullivan underscored.

Time Executives Edward Felsenthal and Ian Orefice also said that they were "devastated" by Renaud's death, per BBC. The executives also noted that Renaud tackled the "toughest stories" around the world with his brother Craig Renaud, highlighting that the late media practitioner was an award-winning filmmaker and journalist.

Brent Renaud was the first foreign journalist who died while covering the Ukraine Russia War, per BBC.

Another U.S. Journalist Injured Amid Ukraine Russia War Coverage

On the same day Zelenskyy penned his condolences, another U.S. Journalist was reportedly injured while covering the Ukraine Russia War, according to The Hill.

The journalist was identified as Benjamin Hall from Fox News. The outlet's CEO Suzanne Scott also confirmed Hall was injured while in Ukraine.

It was still not clear how or what part of Hall's body sustained the injury. However, reports underscored that the Fox News correspondent was currently hospitalized. The executives also did not disclose where Hall is currently admitted.

Despite having not enough details, TV host John Roberts emphasized they are "working to gather more information.

"The safety of our Fox team is of the utmost importance and our highest priority," Roberts assured.

On Monday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki expressed sympathies on Hall's condition.

"Our thoughts, the president's thoughts, our administration's thoughts are with him, his family, and all of you at Fox News," Psaki noted, per The Hill.
