Fans of the "West Side Story" star Rachel Zegler were furious after they found out that the actress was not invited to this year's Oscars.

On Sunday, Zegler took to Instagram to post a slideshow of recapping her journey in the last few months, per Entertainment Tonight. The "West Side Story" star included portraits of herself, like the one she looked very pretty in a blue gown.

"A quarter of the year well spent," Rachel Zegler captioned her Instagram post. One fan commented on her photo saying: "Can't wait to see what you'll be wearing on Oscar night." However, the actress then replied in the comments about what she will be wearing. "I'm not invited so sweatpants and my boyfriend's flannel," Zegler said. Fans were sent in outrage after the actress revealed that she will not be in the 94th Academy Awards.

One user said that it was "weird" that Zegler was not nominated even though she was the lead in a film that was one of the "most nominated movies of the year."

Another user called the Oscar people "philistines," contending that Rachel was both not nominated and invited to the event.

One netizen claimed that the Oscars "made a massive mistake" for its decision. The user furthered that they hope it's not yet "too late" for the organizers to "correct their decision."

Meanwhile, one fan said that it does not matter whether Zegler was invited to the Oscars or not.

"This process takes time and you will have time to calm down and to meet your loved ones soon!! God's blessings and prayers to you and stay safe," the user pointed out.

In the same thread's comment section, the actress said that she tried everything but her attending the Oscars "doesn't seem to be happening."

"I will root for west side story from my couch and be proud of the work we so tirelessly did 3 years ago," Zegler said in a comment to her Instagram post.

The actress furthered that she "hopes some last-minute miracle occurs" for her to celebrate their film in person. The actress then thanked her fans "for all the shock and outrage."

"I'm disappointed, too. but that's okay. so proud of our movie," Zegler ended her comment.

Meanwhile, a source told E! News that movie studios are given tickets to the Oscars. This means that it is up to Disney who owns the 20th Century Studios and the production behind "West Side Story" will be the one to decide if an artist will attend the event.

"It would be different if she was a nominee and or a presenter," the source added. It can be recalled that "West Side Story" is nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Picture, per E! News.
