"La Negra," the daughter of the Jalisco cartel's boss Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes or "El Mencho," was released from a U.S. prison after being jailed for over 25 months on charges of money laundering.

The U.S. Bureau of Prisons told Univision News that Jessica Johanna Oseguera Gonzalez, known by her alias "La Negra," was released on March 14, a month earlier than her scheduled release date.

Randilee Giamusso, a spokeswoman for the Bureau of Prisons, told the outlet that La Negra was released a few weeks earlier because she benefited from the so-called First Step Act (FSA), which was signed into law by former President Donald Trump in December 2018.

It was enacted to reduce the population in federal prisons and prevent recidivism. To date, the Bureau of Prisons said more than 4,000 sentence reductions had been granted.

"Jessica Johanna Oseguera Gonzalez was released from the custody of the Bureau of Prisons on March 14, 2022, through the First Step Law. For privacy and security reasons, we do not disclose additional information about inmates not in BOP custody," Giamusso noted.

El Mencho's 35-year-old daughter served the last part of her sentence at the FCI Dublin prison in San Francisco, California.

La Negra's attorneys earlier asked the court that she serve her prison sentence in a jail in California so she could be close to her relatives. El Mencho's daughter was born in California and moved to Mexico while in high school.

Jalisco Cartel Boss El Mencho's Daughter Asks U.S. Judge to Free Her

Jessica Johanna Oseguera Gonzalez pleaded guilty in March last year to violating the Kingpin Act for her association with businesses blacklisted by the U.S. La Negra allegedly managed companies that laundered money generated by drug trafficking.

In her sentencing hearing last June, La Negra told district court judge Beryl Howell that her time in prison for more than a year has allowed her to reflect on her decisions and mistakes and their impact on her family and children.

"Your Honor, I regret my actions and I beg your mercy... I ask for a second chance to see my children grow day by day... I have learned my lesson, and I will never do it again," she noted.

The judge then ordered La Negra to serve two years and six months in prison, which she will serve simultaneously. The judge has also ordered the mother-of-two to remain on supervised release for two years after finishing her prison sentence.

Prosecutors had been pushing for a prison sentence of four years and three months. But the court chose the two and a half years sentence, noting El Mencho's daughter's lack of prior conviction and had shown remorse for her actions.

Before she confessed to her crime, the daughter of the Jalisco cartel's boss was initially looking at 30 years in prison.

The Arrest of Jalisco Cartel Boss El Mencho's Daughter, La Negra

Jessica Johanna Oseguera Gonzalez walked into the Washington D.C. courthouse in February 2020 to attend her brother's hearing. However, she was quickly arrested.

La Negra's brother is Ruben Oseguera Gonzales, who is known to inherit the Jalisco cartel throne from his father in Mexico. He was known as "El Menchito."

El Menchito was accused of distributing cocaine and methamphetamine in the U.S. from 2007 to February 2017. Their father, El Mencho, is the head of the Jalisco cartel, which is considered one of Mexico's most powerful and violent criminal organizations.

The Jalisco cartel boss continues to evade capture, and the U.S. government offers a $10 million reward for information leading to his arrest.

The Jalisco cartel or Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) had approximately 5,000 members and was allegedly involved in mass graves, kidnappings, acid baths, and video recording beheadings.

According to reports, El Mencho's drug cartel has not stopped expanding in Mexico and now operates in more than 20 states.
