Oscar De La Hoya said the fight between Jake Paul and Canelo Alvarez is possible, as he sees the YouTube star beating some world boxing champions one day.

According to Heavy, De La Hoya recently told TMZ that he believes Paul can one day fight for a world championship as long as he keeps up his training and momentum.

De La Hoya noted that Paul has all the time to make himself better before battling the Mexican boxer in the future. The Golden Boy said Paul needs to prove himself in the ring first by beating notable fighters and champions.

"I think, in order to fight an elite fighter like that, like Canelo, you have to prove yourself. You have to have a world title. You have to fight a few contenders, a few world champions," De La Hoya noted as Clutch Points reported.

De La Hoya said Paul could not just go in the ring and fight Canelo Alvarez as it would not be fair for other world champions waiting to fight the Mexican boxer.

But Oscar De La Hoya has lauded Jake Paul's performance in the boxing ring. Paul has only been boxing for around three years.

According to the boxing legend, the YouTube star is taking it seriously, adding that Paul wants to become a world champion.

"This is not a one-off, a two-off, a three-off, no. He wants to become a world champion and there's no other way out of becoming world champion, you have to fight the very best. I just want to say that but Jake Paul is doing the right thing," De La Hoya said.

The Golden Boy noted that Paul is on his way to becoming a world contender "and then a world champion, if he keeps it up."

Jake Paul Receives Advice to Fight Canelo Alvarez Before Retiring

Jake Paul's sparring partner, Anthony Taylor, told The Sun that he would love to see the YouTube star and Canelo Alvarez fight.

Taylor noted that it does not matter if Paul wins or loses, adding that fighting a world champion is already enough before Paul retires from boxing at the age of 25.

"Win or lose, ride off into the sunset, retire and say, 'Hey, I fought a world champion'," Taylor said.

Taylor noted that Jake Paul could face Canelo Alvarez "even right now" as the YouTube star has improved his boxing skills.

Aside from the Mexican boxer, Taylor also said he would want to see Paul in a bout with Nate Diaz, Jorge Masvidal, and Kamaru Usman, Mirror reported.

Jake Paul Wants to Fight Canelo Alvarez in 2024

Jake Paul has already said he wants to fight Canelo Alvarez, and the YouTube star has set a timeline.

Speaking to TMZ Sports last December, Paul said he wanted to be in a match with Alvarez by 2024.

According to Bleacher Report, Paul noted that by 2024, his skills would be good enough to make a serious competition, and fighting the Mexican boxer in the ring would be "massive."

Jake Paul also claimed that he and Canelo Alvarez are already the two biggest drawing cards in boxing.

"What better fight than to put the No. 1 highest-paid and the No. 2 highest-paid against each other?," the YouTube star noted.
