Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Vows to Implement New Border Security Strategies Despite Title 42 Remaining Active
Texas Governor Greg Abbott pledged to implement new border security strategies, even though the Title 42 expulsion policy remains in effect as of Monday.
According to NBC DFW, the Texas governor cited several strategies to thwart Mexican drug cartels from smuggling migrants in a meeting with local and state agencies in Eagle Pass on Monday.
Abbott noted that one of the strategies he would implement was to deploy additional barriers like razor wire to make it more challenging to cross Texas. The Texas governor said the wire would cover every inch of the border, except for federal or private property.
Abbott added that local law enforcement would also be posted behind the barricades to continue the arrest and send the message that individuals crossing between ports of entry will be subjected to arrest and trespassing.
The Texas governor was asked whether he thinks using razor wires as deterrence for migrants is cruel. But DPS Director Steve McGraw, who volunteered to respond, said using wire was not cruel, emphasizing that the cartels are cruel for what they are doing to women and children.
Abbott has also vowed to increase the number of bus trips with migrants processed at the border to Washington D.C. He noted that at least 45 buses have already transported migrants to the country's capital as a symbol of the Biden administration's "Open Border Policies."

Over 400 Migrants Posed as Minors in El Paso, Texas
Greg Abbott's announcement came as the arrests of adult migrants who illegally crossed the border and posed as unaccompanied children are nearing to surpass the previous fiscal year's total.
According to the U.S. Border Patrol's El Paso Sector in Texas, there have been 416 adult migrants who have been found to have posed as minors, the Daily Mail reported. The said number was recorded since October 1, 2021, or the start of the fiscal year 2022. In comparison, 559 imposters tried to slip through the system in the fiscal year 2021, which spanned from October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021.
Reports claimed that on one occasion, the El Paso Sector Central processing uncovered a 24-year-old Guatemalan who intentionally used his 15-year-old birth certificate to enter the United States.
In another incident, agents discovered a 20-year-old Honduran who presented a fake birth certificate so he could be released into the country.
According to U.S. law, both men would face charges for providing false statements to federal agents and conspiracy to defraud the U.S. The two can also be fined and sent to prison.
Title 42 Expulsion in the U.S.
The incidents occurred as the Title 42 expulsion in the U.S. borders remained effective as of Monday.
Supposedly, the Trump-era program would be lifted on Monday. But U.S. District Judge Robert Summerhays issued a nationwide injunction last week barring the administration of President Joe Biden from lifting the policy.
The ruling came after two dozen states sued the Biden administration over its plan, arguing that Title 42 should remain in place as proper consideration was not given to a likely surge in border crossings and other issues.
Since the restriction was put in place, more than 1.9 million Title 42 expulsions have reportedly been carried out.
