SNAP benefits 2022 recipients in Oregon are seen to receive emergency allotments in June, with the federal government approving emergency allotments every month since March 2020.

KTVZ News noted that the emergency benefits are temporary support the state can provide with the federal COVID-19 public health emergency.

The emergency allotments are expected to end when the federal public health emergency ends.

Around 411,000 SNAP households will receive approximately $66 million in extra food benefits on top of their regular SNAP benefits in June.

Claire Seguin, deputy director of the Oregon Department of Human Services, Self-Sufficiency Programs, noted that they know many Oregonians are struggling to meet their basic needs.

Seguin encourages Oregon residents to contact their partners at 211 and the Oregon Food Bank for support.

SNAP recipients will get their supplemental benefits through their EBT Cards.

SNAP benefits, also known as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is a federal program that helps low-income households maintain proper nutrition by giving them a way to purchase food.

Most SNAP benefits recipients receive their payments through Electronic Benefits Transfer cards.

EBT cards in Oregon are also known as Oregon Trail cards, according to a Oregon Law Help website.

SNAP recipients with EBT cards will be given a Personal Identification Number to access the funds in their food stamp account.

People are eligible for SNAP benefits if they are U.S. citizens and their income is considered modest or low.

Meanwhile, if you are not a U.S. citizen, you might be able to receive SNAP benefits if you are a permanent resident, entered the U.S. lawfully, and meet certain other requirements.

Some people are "categorically eligible," which means that resource and income tests do not apply to them. These people are not required to meet income or resource tests if their countable income is less than 185 percent of the federal poverty rate.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has granted waivers to some states through the end of May 2022 such as the District of Columbia, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, and Rhode Island.

South Carolina and Wisconsin are also included in the list of states that have extended COVID-19 federal public health emergency, according to a Go Banking Rates report.

States included in the list will distribute emergency allotments of at least $95 for eligible recipients, while those receiving $95 or more will continue to get the same amount.

The emergency allotments were authorized under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act to help address temporary food needs during the pandemic for SNAP households.

State SNAP agencies can issue emergency allotments on a month-to-month basis to all SNAP households that usually receive less than the maximum benefit.

States may choose to continue to provide monthly emergency allotments as long as there is a national public health emergency in place.
