Ryan Garcia vs. Javier Fortuna Fight
Garcia and Fortuna's fight was originally scheduled for July 2021. However, the WBC champ withdrew from the match, citing mental health concerns, which was understood by Fortuna, per SB Nation.
Garcia underscored that all the doubts that made him hesitant to fight Fortuna last year will be erased in their July 16 boxing match.
"It's time to silence all the doubters and it starts on July 16," Garcia stressed. He also noted that the fight with Fortuna was the fight he wanted to take place. He then expressed his gratitude to his family, friends, and his fans for their support.
Ryan Garcia's match in July was announced after his unanimous decision win against Emmanuel Tagoe in April. The said match was Garcia's first bout after a 15-month hiatus to manage his mental health and recover from a hand injury.
Meanwhile, Javier Fortuna lost a bid for the vacant WBC interim lightweight title against Joseph Diaz last July. His loss to Diaz costs him a three-fight winning streak against Antonio Lozada Jr. and Jesus Cuellar.
Fortuna was ranked in the top 10 lightweight divisions of WBC. Furthermore, he is also a former two-time world champion who previously held the WBA Interim Featherweight World Championship and the WBA Super Featherweight World Championship.
