Johnny Depp Lawyers: Actor Might Waive $8 Million Fee Amber Heard Was Ordered to Pay Him
Johnny Depp lawyers, Camille Vasquez and Benjamin Chew, have made several TV show appearances after the Amber Heard trial. Daily Mail reported that the Depp lawyers have appeared on TODAY, Good Morning America, and then on Law and Crime network.
Vasquez and Chew noted that Depp was happy to have won and that the actor had not "smiled like this in six years," which was when his problems with Heard started.
The Depp lawyers then implied that the Pirate of the Caribbean's actor might even waive the $8 million judgment Heard was ordered to pay him.
Heard's attorneys said that she cannot afford the fee she is ordered to pay. They revealed that they have plans to file an appeal.
Depp's lawyers said that it was never about money for their client; rather, it was about "restoring his reputation," adding that the actor has done that.
Vasquez and Chew said on Good Morning America that they cannot disclose attorney-client communications, but it was never about money for Depp.
The Depp lawyers said the comment after the Good Morning America host George Stephanopoulos asked the two if it was possible for Heard to forgo an appeal in exchange for Depp waiving the damages she is ordered to pay.

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard Trial
Johnny Depp was awarded a total of $15 million in compensatory and punitive damages after a jury found Amber Heard did defame her former husband in a 2018 article she wrote about her domestic abuse experience.
The jury agreed to award the actor $10 million in compensatory damages and an additional $5 million in punitive damages, according to a Metro report. However, the punitive damages were capped at $350,000 per Virginia state law.
Heard was also awarded $2 million in compensatory damages, which reduced Depp's total to $8.35 million.
Heard's lawyer Elaine Bredehoft said that social media played a role in the result of the high-profile case.
The Aquaman actor's legal team also released a statement saying that "women's rights are moving backward."
Vasquez then commented that the immense attention the legal team received during the trial was "overwhelming."

Benjamin Chew said that social media played no role whatsoever, adding that it was a decision made by the jury on the evidence presented by both sides, as reported by U.S. Magazine.
The attorney said on an appearance on TODAY that he does not think there is a reason that the jurors violated their oath, adding that it was disappointing to hear the suggestion from Bredehoft.
Camille Vasquez chimed in and said jury members had a "tremendous amount of respect for the court and the process." She added that the jury was doing the best that they could.
Bredehoft's suggestion came in after a judge announced that Depp would be awarded punitive and compensatory damages.
Heard wrote on Instagram her feelings regarding the verdict, saying that her disappointment is "beyond words."
