Jeffrey Dahmer Family: Here's What Happened to Father, Brother, Mother of Milwaukee's Terrifying Cannibal Serial Killer
Between 1978 and 1991, notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer raped, murdered, and dismembered at least 17 men and boys in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Dahmer committed his first murder in 1978, just three weeks after she graduated from high school. His first victim was Steven Nicks, a hitchhiker he picked up and lured back to his house. Dahmer bludgeoned Hicks with a 10-pound dumbbell before strangling him to death when he attempted to leave.
Dahmer was arrested in July 1991 after he offered three men to pose for nude photographs, with a man named Tracy Edwards agreeing and following the serial killer back to his apartment.
Dahmer handcuffed Edwards and even told him his plan to eat his heart. However, Edwards managed to escape when he punched Dahmer and knocked him to the ground. It allowed Edwards to run through the front door, get out of the apartment, and flag down two police officers he led back to Dahmer's apartment.
When they arrived, the police officers saw an opened drawer that contained Polaroid pictures of human bodies in different stages of dismemberment. Jeffrey Dahmer tried to escape, but authorities overpowered him and cuffed him.
Dahmer was charged with multiple life sentences in 1992 for the 17 murders he committed. According to Cheat Sheet, a fellow prisoner named Christopher Scarver beat him to death on November 28, 1994. He was 34.
Jeffrey Dahmer Family
Jeffrey Dahmer was born on May 21, 1960 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was the eldest of his parents' two sons. His father, Lionel Herbert Dahmer, studied chemistry at Marquette University and eventually worked as a research chemist.
His mother, Joyce Annette Flint Dahmer, was a teletype machine instructor. Lionel was of German and Welsh descent, and Joyce was of Irish and Norwegian ancestry.
As an infant, Jeffrey was allegedly deprived of attention. Joyce was known for being tense, greedy for sympathy and attention, and aggressive with Lionel and their neighbors.
She reportedly had used Equinil in an attempt to commit suicide on one occasion. On the other hand, Lionel spent a lot of time away from home because he was in college. When he was home, his hypochondriac, depressed wife constantly demanded attention and spent more time in bed.
As a consequence, neither of Jeffrey's parents spent much time with him. As a young boy, he felt "unsure of the stability of the family" due to numerous arguments and extreme tension between his parents.
The family initially settled down in Milwaukee, Wisconsin before moving to Doylestown, Ohio, in October 1966. When Joyce had a baby boy in December, Jeffrey Dahmer chose the name David for his new brother. After Lionel got his degree, he began working as an analytical chemist in nearby Akron, Ohio, that same year.
Where Is Lionel Dahmer Now?
Lionel Dahmer had been a supportive father to Jeffrey Dahmer and was beside him throughout his trial and conviction. Lionel has been in several TV shows and documentaries since the death of his son.
He appeared on "Biography," "Dahmer on Dahmer: A Serial Killer Speaks," "Dateline NBC," and "Mind of a Monster," among others, until his final appearance in 2020. After that, Lionel keeps his life private. Ohio residential database shows that Lionel and his second wife, Shari Dahmer, reportedly live in Seville, Ohio.
Joyce Annette Flint Dahmer's Death
Reports said Joyce Annette Flint Dahmer allegedly never got over the guilt she felt when she found out about her son's murder. In 1978, it came out that she was seeing someone else, so she and Lionel split up after 19 years of marriage.
She and her younger son, David, moved to California after they separated. She passed away in 2000 due to breast cancer. She was 64.
David Dahmer
David Dahmer is younger than Jeffrey Dahmer by over six years. They got separated when their parents broke up. According to Women's Health Magazine, David was 12 years old at that time.
By the time Jeffrey was detained in 1991, David had earned his degree from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. Understandably, he decided to "cut all ties" with his brother and skipped his trial and hearings.
According to the most recent information available about David, which was from June 2004, he has a career and two kids. Netflix Life reported that David never did any interviews concerning his brother and has completely disassociated from him and his gruesome crimes, which included cannibalism and necrophilia.
David reportedly changed his name and continued to live his life away from the public eye. However, it is unknown if he is still alive.
