For decades, Texas has been a deep red state, with Republicans winning overwhelmingly against their democratic opponents in the state. Beto O'Rourke is now at the forefront of the Democratic Party's political resurgence in Texas.

The former Texas congressman is challenging Republican Governor Greg Abbott in this upcoming midterm election for Texas governor.

An El Paso native, O'Rourke has been serving as a Democrat since 2005, when he ran for El Paso City Council. Since then, he has risen through the ranks, even getting Senator Ted Cruz a run for his money in 2018.

While Abbott still leads in the polls, as many expected in the deep red state, that lead is not as big as the governor would have liked, with Beto O'Rourke seeming to be gaining on him fast.

Did Texas Gubernatorial Candidate Beto O'Rourke Marry a Billionaire Heiress?

At a young age, Beto O'Rourke was already exposed to politics. Thanks to his father, Pat O'Rourke, who held several county government positions and even served on Jesse Jackson's 1984 and 1988 presidential campaigns, Market Realist reported.

O'Rourke was part of several punk bands in college. He played bass in a punk band he formed called Foss. After graduation, he co-founded an internet service and software company called Stanton Street Technology Group.

O'Rourke stayed as a punk rocker and businessman until he entered politics in 2005 when he ran for the El Paso City Council and was elected. He was elected to represent Texas' 16th Congressional district in the House of Representatives in 2012.

After he tried to unseat Ted Cruz from his Senate seat but lost, he ran in 2019 as a Democratic candidate for the 2020 presidential election. However, he withdrew nine months after announcing his candidacy.

Beto O'Rourke married Amy Sanders in 2005, and they had three children. There are rumors that Sanders was a billionaire heiress, and it all started when O'Rourke described his father-in-law William Sanders as a "billionaire real estate developer."

However, according to reports, his father-in-law is not a billionaire but a multi-millionaire. Forbes estimated that William Sanders' net worth is around $500 million, still enough to bankroll his son-in-law's presidential aspirations.

Beto O'Rourke Net Worth: Where Does He Get His Money?

Beto O'Rourke strongly supports gun reform in Texas, and it seems the public is on his side. Many see his gun control platform as a winning issue following frustration over the apparent inaction of the Greg Abbott administration following the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde.

However, the question is, where does he get his money? According to the El Paso Times, before running for president, O'Rourke sold shares from companies like Stanton Street Technology Group, which he founded.

Proceeds from the sale are between $100,000 and $1 million. He was also a partner in Imperial Arms LLC and partially owned Peppertree Square Ltd., a shopping center in West El Paso.

Celebrity Net Worth puts Beto O'Rourke's net worth at around $9 million. He reportedly built much of his net worth through real estate, and other investments, with the money from his wife, who also runs her own business.
