Elon Musk laid off about half of Twitter's employees, including important moderators and ethics staff on Friday. But the next day, the company was getting in touch with some of the people it had fired and asking them to return. Reports said that several workers were fired by mistake.

Twitter's brand-new service, Twitter Blue, came out on the same day. Musk wanted the website to make money from it. Like the celebrities, companies, and politicians you follow, Yahoo reported that any user can buy a blue tick for a $7.99 monthly subscription.

However, a report, which came out early on Sunday, said the "pay for play" verification check marks will not be given out until after tomorrow's midterm elections. Many employees were worried that organizations or politicians would use recently verified accounts to spread false information about elections.

Elon Musk Has a Solution to Counter Copycats

Several comedians were banned from Twitter for tweets that made fun of its new owner, Elon Musk. This happened just days after Musk said that "comedy is now acceptable on Twitter."

Both comedian Kathy Griffin and internet sensation Ethan Klein, who had confirmed "blue check" accounts, had their accounts suspended.

After switching his identity to" Elon Musk" along with a photo that depicts the Twitter owner, Klein said to his 2.3 million followers: "Yes, I could have ended world hunger instead of buying Twitter."

"But people don't understand the importance of having a free and open forum. If somebody dies of starvation in Sudan, it won't affect the world. But being able to say the N-word on Twitter is a right we all deserve," he added. According to Time, Klein's account was soon suspended after posting this tweet.

"Going forward, any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying 'parody' will be permanently suspended," Musk tweeted late Sunday night as he addressed the wave of impersonations. He further noted that this time, the suspension will come without warning.

Elon Musk Fights With Founder Jack Dorsey on Twitter Over Birdwatch Feature

On Sunday night, Jack Dorsey and Elon Musk fought about Twitter's goal to be the "most accurate source of information" and the renaming of its Birdwatch feature because the new owner said the old name gave him "the creeps."

The spar started when Musk tweeted that "Twitter needs to become by far the most accurate source of information about the world. That's our mission."

Dorsey, co-founder and former CEO of Twitter, replied, "Accurate to who?" Musk replied: "As judged by the people of Twitter via Community Notes (formerly Birdwatch)," referring to the feature allowing users to leave comments on tweets they find misleading.

"I still think...Birdwatch is a far better name. And 'more informative' a far better goal," Dorsey wrote in response, to which Musk replied, "Birdwatch gives me the creeps."

Dorsey recently started a social media platform called Bluesky. It is a blockchain system that promises to offer users and developers more freedom.
