Donald Trump Calls Kanye West a 'Seriously Troubled Man,' Blames Him for Dinner With Holocaust Denier
Former President Donald Trump on Saturday called Kanye West a "seriously troubled man" whom he was trying to help.
However, Trump also blamed Kanye for a dinner in which he said the rapper brought along an infamous white nationalist, The Hill reported.
On his own Truth Social platform, the former president wrote that he had no idea Kanye would bring far-right activist Nick Fuentes to the dinner at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Tuesday night. Trump added that he did not know who Fuentes was.
Trump said: "So I help a seriously troubled man, who just happens to be black, Ye (Kanye West), who has been decimated in his business and virtually everything else, and who has always been good to me, by allowing his request for a meeting at Mar-a-Lago, alone, so that I can give him very much needed 'advice.'"
The former president added: "He shows up with 3 people, two of which I didn't know, the other a political person who I haven't seen in years... I told him don't run for office, a total waste of time, can't win. Fake News went CRAZY!"
On Friday, Trump said Kanye called him to have dinner at his Mar-a-Lago estate "this past week." He noted that "shortly thereafter," the rapper unexpectedly showed up with "three of his friends, whom I knew nothing about."
"We had dinner on Tuesday evening with many members present on the back patio. The dinner was quick and uneventful... They then left for the airport," the former president said.
Trump noted that the Mar-a-Lago dinner meeting was only intended to be between him and the rapper.
He added that Kanye asked him "for advice concerning some of his difficulties," particularly "having to do with his business" during their meeting.
Nick Fuentes is known for making racist comments and denying the Holocaust, which has been widely condemned. On the other hand, several companies have already broken ties with Kanye West over his recent antisemitic remarks.
Donald Trump Dinner With Nick Fuentes, Kanye West Receives Criticism From Top Republican Figures
This weekend, prominent Republicans and potential 2024 GOP presidential candidates spent much of their time criticizing Donald Trump after news came out that he had dinner at Mar-a-Lago with Nick Fuentes, WGN Radio reported.
Trump insisted that he did not know who Fuentes was before their meeting. However, several Republicans, including some of his former Cabinet officials reportedly eyeing to run in 2024, have spoken out against the meeting.
Arkansas Republican Governor Asa Hutchinson told CNN's "State of the Union" that he does not think it is a good idea for a leader who is setting an example for the country or the party to meet with an open racist or antisemite. He noted that it was a "very unsettling" meeting.
The governor has called it "the right thing to do" for former Trump supporters to criticize and oppose him as he runs for the Republican party's presidential nomination in 2024.
Republican Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, a leading candidate to chair the House Oversight and Reform Committee, said on Sunday that Trump "needs better judgment in who he dines with," adding that he would not meet with Nick Fuentes or Kanye West.
Donald Trump Denies Knowing Nick Fuentes
MSNBC's "PoliticsNation" host Rev. Al Sharpton appeared on "The Sunday Show With Jonathan Capehart" and said Donald Trump was trying to back out of the controversy "Michael Jackson moonwalk" style when the former president said he was unaware that Nick Fuentes is a white nationalist, The Wrap reported.
"Donald Trump is a former president. He still has Secret Service. The Secret Service screens who visits the former president," according to Sharpton, who was implying that Trump's team would make sure he who he's meeting with.
On Thursday night, Kanye West revealed in a campaign video he shared on his Twitter that he asked Trump to be his running mate for his 2024 presidential bid during his visit to Trump's Mar-a-Lago home.
The rapper noted that Trump was "perturbed" and "caught off guard" when he suggested that the former president sign on as his running mate. Kanye added that Trump yelled at him when he asked him to be his running mate, telling him that his 2024 presidential run was a mistake.
Trump earlier said he would try to reclaim the White House again two years after voters ousted him and rejected his hand-picked candidates during the midterm elections.
He vowed that the future would resemble the past if elected and promised to repeal President Joe Biden's response to immigration and climate change.
Donald Trump filed his paperwork to run again in 2024 before the Federal Election Commission on November 15. On the other hand, Kanye West has yet to file the basic paperwork to become a presidential candidate in 2024.
