Beneficiaries from various states are waiting for any SNAP benefits update in December, eyeing whether their respective local SNAP offices will be providing recipients emergency allotments for the incoming month.

SNAP Benefits in New York and emergency allotments were extended until at least February 2023, making the state the latest one to extend emergency food stamp payments into December 2022.

SNAP benefits payments is a federal program that aims to assist low-income households and individuals have more purchasing power and ability to provide their families a nutritious meals.

Some states have already first announced that they will be formally extending emergency allotments into December such as New Mexico, Oregon, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin.

There are also states whose November payments will be distributed in December. These states are Alabama, California, Kansas, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, and Vermont.

SNAP Benefits December

 Thanksgiving may have delayed some of announcements regarding SNAP benefits emergency allotments in December.

As of November 28, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Virginia, and West Virginia joined the list of states providing emergency food stamp payments.

The emergency SNAP emergency funds are related to the public health emergency announcement. It was first introduced in January 2020 and has been extended every 90 days ever since.

The Department of Health and Human Services earlier said that it would give a 60 days' notice before terminating the health emergency,

The emergency benefits related to the public health emergency are reportedly unlikely to be over before the end of January 2023.

Each state will be given the power to decide whether it will extend the extra payments on a monthly basis.

Fewer states have announced extensions, so far, for the month of December. Extra payments are expected to be discontinued completely in 2023, which could pose households with problems of having less money for food.

SNAP Benefits California

The state of California currently has 2,579,564 households receiving SNAP benefits while 4,553,236 individuals in California are receiving the benefits on August 22 alone, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture data,

California has its own official name for SNAP benefits. The payment program is called CalFresh.

California follows a payment schedule when it comes to depositing the recipients' SNAP benefits, which depends on the beneficiaries' case numbers.

If your case number ends on 1, your SNAP benefits will be deposited in December. This schedule will continue until December 10.

For those receiving Cash Assistance in California, benefits are made available on weekends and holidays.

The beneficiaries' remaining balance on their Electronic Benefits Transfer card is added to the next month's balance, with the payment schedule starting on December 1 until December 3.

California deposits a maximum SNAP benefit worth $281 for a household size of 1 while every additional member in a household is deemed to have an extra $211.

California urges beneficiaries to call their local SNAP office if they had not received their food stamps on schedule.
