Eligible retirees and survivors will get $841 in their first Social Security payment check on December 1, followed by an average of $914 in their second payment check on December 30.

The December 30 payment is an advance payment for January 2023 because it represents the revised SSI benefit level for the coming year.

Supplemental Security Income recipients who were previously receiving $841 will now earn $914.

In 2023, SSI payments recipients will receive two December payments instead of one because the regular payment date, January 1, falls on a Sunday and is a holiday.

When this happens, the checks are sent out the preceding business day by regular mail by the Social Security Administration (SSA). That day is this December 30, Friday.

Marca noted that applicants for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) got two payments in a single month for the second time this year in April and September.

How Are the Dates of the SSI Payments Schedule Decided?

The Social Security Administration sends out payments on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Your birth date determines which Wednesday you will receive the money. Generally, SSI payments are issued on the first of each month.

  • Your payment will be sent on the second Wednesday if your birthday falls between the first and tenth of the month.

  • Your payment will be made on the third Wednesday of the month after your birthday if it falls between the 11th and 20th of that month.

  • Your payment will be made on the fourth Wednesday of the month if your birthday falls between the 21st and the 31st of the month.

Here are the SSI payments December schedule for when you could get your Social Security check and/or SSI payments:

  • On December 1, SSI recipients will get their payments.

  • On December 2, those who get both SSI and Social Security or who have been getting Social Security since before May 1997 will get their Social Security payment.

  • On December 14, those whose birthdays fall between the first and tenth of a given month get their Social Security payment.

  • On December 21, those whose birthdays fall within the 11th and 20th of the month get their Social Security payments.

  • On December 28, those born between the 21st and 31st of any given month get their Social Security payments.

December 30 is the SSI payment for January. This check will have the COLA increase, per CNET.

Note that the last payment date for November was November 23.

What To Do if Social Security Payments Do Not Arrive?

The Social Security Administration suggests calling your financial institution, bank, or post office for assistance.

For follow-up inquiries after contacting an agency, you may call 1-800-771-1213. Making a phone call or visiting the nearest Social Security Office is also a protocol in situations like this, according to AS.

The Social Security Administration emphasizes that wait times to meet with a representative are shorter Wednesday through Friday evenings (between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. local time).

While you wait to get your physical card, you can check your Social Security benefits online at ssa.gov/myaccount.
