Elon Musk Voted Out by Twitter Users, But He's Yet To Resign
Elon Musk has polled his Twitter followers on whether he should resign from the social media company as CEO or not.
Twitter users have voted in favor of Musk's resignation, with a total of 57.5% voting "yes" after the billionaire asked his 122 million followers whether he should step down. Meanwhile, 42.5% voted "no" on Musk's poll.
Musk has obeyed Twitter polls in the past, even using the phrase "vox populi, vox dei," which is a Latin phrase that roughly means "the voice of the people is the voice of God."
Musk has yet to comment on the matter since his Twitter poll closed, with more than 17.5 million users voting in his poll.
In case Musk resigns, he would remain the owner of the social media platform. Musk then tweeted after the poll to "be careful what you wish, as you might get it."
One former Twitter staff, who left the company, recently said that Musk was "showing himself to be the incompetent fool we all knew he was."
The former staff added that Musk must be getting pressure from investors to step down and is utilizing the poll to "make it look like he's following the will of the people," instead of the will of those paying for the continuity of the operation of Twitter.
Elon Musk Poll
Elon Musk launched the poll after Twitter announced that it would no longer allow users to link to other social media platforms, dubbing it a "free promotion." The social media platforms include Facebook, Instagram, and Mastodon.
Twitter has also been criticized for the suspension of the accounts of journalists who report on Musk. He accused the media of endangering his family by sharing his real-time location.
The Tesla CEO made the claim after the site's doxxing rules to ban accounts that track private aircraft, which includes his private jet.
Critics have also claimed that Musk allowed hate speech to grow on the platform and censored criticism he does not like.
Investors in Tesla are also worried that Twitter is distracting Musk amid a critical time for the world's largest electric car maker.
Last month, Musk said that he would reduce his time at Twitter and eventually find someone new to lead the social media company.
Musk said on Sunday that no one wants the job "who can actually keep Twitter alive."
Elon Musk Twitter
Elon Musk reinstated the accounts of several journalists that were suspended for a day over a controversy over publishing public data about his private plane.
The UN human rights chief, Volker Turk, welcomed the reinstatements. However, he said that he still has concerns.
Turk said that Twitter has a "responsibility to respect human rights, which include free speech and "nothing less."
A CNN reporter who had been among those who were suspended and reinstated, Donie O'Sullivan, said that he still could not tweet as Twitter was demanding the removal of one of his posts.
O'Sullivan said that he would appeal.
