A new SNAP benefits update for some recipients might not be welcome news, with some states announcing that they will be ending the emergency allotments for food stamp payments.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program emergency allotments in South Carolina will end on January 31, 2023.

South Carolina Department of Social Services made the announcement regarding the end of the emergency allotments.

SNAP benefits emergency allotments in South Carolina have been handing eligible households up to the maximum benefit allotment, depending on the recipients' household size.

A two-person SNAP household with a regular SNAP benefit worth $250 a month used to receive an additional $266 in emergency allotments.

On February 1, the household will receive $250 every month in total due to the end of additional allotments.

The United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Services has approved the emergency allotments for January 2023, calling it South Carolina's transition month before emergency allotments are put to an end completely.

SNAP benefits recipients' food stamp payments will not be altered due to the end of emergency allotments.

More than 308,000 households are receiving SNAP benefits in South Carolina as of November 2022.

SNAP Benefits Update

In Louisiana, some people will see a decrease in benefits, including SNAP benefits due to the federal cost-of-living adjustment to Social Security and veterans benefits.

Other benefits that will see a decrease in Louisiana include the Family Independence Temporary Assistance Program and the Kinship Care Subsidy Program.

The Louisiana DCFS noted that benefit reductions for SNAP recipients may not be noticeable until the Public Health Emergency declaration ends.

The state added that another 1,414 SNAP cases will be closed as their income exceeds the eligibility limit.

The Louisiana DCFS noted that the income adjustment will be automatically made to SNAP and FITAP applicants starting January 2023.

Meanwhile, SNAP recipients in Oregon can expect to receive their emergency allotments in January.

Around 421,000 SNAP households will receive around $71 million in extra food benefits on top of their regular SNAP benefits.

Current SNAP benefits recipients in Oregon will receive their emergency allotments on January 11, 2023, while households who did not receive benefits in the first monthly issuance will receive theirs between January 31, 2023, and February 2, 2023.

Emergency allotments are automatically deposited into the recipients' Electronic Benefits Transfer cards.

Food Stamp Payments

Some states have been approved to issue emergency allotments in 2023 such as California, Colorado, Hawaii, New Mexico, Ohio, and Texas.

California SNAP recipients can receive their extra SNAP benefits on February 13, 2023.

Colorado will also issue emergency allotments in January 2023 in over 282,000 households.

The distribution will start on January 8, 2023, to January 12, 2023.

Over 259,467 New Mexico household recipients can expect their emergency allotments between January 1-31, 2023.

New recipients approved during January will receive their emergency allotment SNAP benefits within three days of being approved for the program.
