Monday night's game between Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals has been suspended after Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field.

Hamlin, 24, reportedly fell on his back just moments after getting up from an open field tackle on Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins during the first quarter of the Bills' game against the Bengals. 

Hamlin took a big hit in the chest area in a collision with Higgins, who was running upfield after a catch. The Bills star immediately got up after the play but then suddenly collapsed.

According to ESPN, Bills team trainers were treating Hamlin within 10 seconds. Footage shows an ambulance was brought onto the field in under five minutes, and Hamlin received CPR before he was taken to a hospital more than 15 minutes after he passed.

The game between the Bills and Bengals was then suspended without an immediate update on when the game would be played.

In a statement, the National Football League (NFL) said that Hamlin was in critical condition at a local hospital.

Hamlin's marketing representative, Jordan Rooney, tweeted an update saying that Hamlin's vitals were "back to normal," and he was put to sleep to insert a breathing tube down his throat.

Buffalo Bills Star Damar Hamlin's Health Update

The league said in a statement that Damar Hamlin got immediate medical attention on the field from the team and independent medical staff, and local paramedics.

The NFL added that the league has been in constant communication with the NFL Players Association, which is in agreement with postponing the game.

Several Bills players were reportedly distressed and seen comforting each other while Hamlin was receiving care from athletic trainers.

The ambulance carrying Hamlin headed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, about five miles away.

The NFL noted that the community is praying for Hamlin and that the only thing that matters right now is "Damar's health and well-being."

In a statement released in the early hours of Tuesday, the Buffalo Bills said Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest during the game and remained in critical condition.

"His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition," the team noted.

Damar Hamlin started the Bills' season in place of injured safety Micah Hyde, who suffered a neck injury in Week 2. He has reportedly played every game this season.

Buffalo Bills' Injured Players

Micah Hyde underwent successful surgery to repair the herniated disc in his neck in October. He was placed on injured reserve on September 24, which ended his 2022 season.

Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott noted at the time that Hyde was sent to a hospital but was also released the next day.

Hyde's expected recovery period is around six to nine months. He is set to return to the Bills for the 2023 season, which is the final year of his current contract.

On the other hand, Buffalo's wide receiver Jamison Crowder broke his ankle during the team's Week 4 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

In December, he was reported to be improving and that the team would be open to Crowder making a return before the season ends once he gets out of the injured reserve.

Bills pass rusher Von Miller was also out of the remainder of the season after he underwent surgery to repair an ACL tear on December 7.

It was previously reported that Miller had avoided significant damage to his knee when he was injured in Buffalo's victory over Detroit on Thanksgiving. He was since then placed on injured reserve.
