Embattled Congressman George Santos of New York was reportedly a drag queen who went by the name "Kitara," while living in Brazil more than 10 years ago.

Santos, who professed on the campaign trail that he had Jewish heritage, is actually of Brazilian descent and has even lived in Brazil for a long time. Photos from his time living in Brazil emerged on Wednesday and depicted that he may have had a secret identity back then.

According to the Daily Mail, a photo from 2008 showed the Republican lawmaker dressed as a drag queen, and a Brazilian drag queen who claims to have been his friend has identified him. Brazilian drag queen Eula Rochard told journalist Marisa Kabas she was friends with Santos when the congressman was still living in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

She said the New York representative was never known as George back then, as he was going by "Anthony." She confirmed that it was Santos who was wearing a red dress in the photograph. "Anthony" was one of the aliases that Santos used in the past, sometimes introducing himself as "Anthony Devolder."

Brazilian Drag Queen Talks About Time With George Santos in Brazil

Eula Rochard spoke with The Handbasket reporter Marisa Kabas about George Santos' life in Brazil. Rochard revealed that when she met the controversial congressman, she was already a well-known and established drag queen. She noted that she became friends with Santos when he was "around 16 or 17."

"He used to hang out in my house while his mom was playing Bingo," she told the journalist.

It had been years since she last saw him, so when she saw Santos on Brazilian TV, she said she could not believe her eyes. She then messaged some of her friends who also knew the lawmaker, but they all doubted her. That was when she found an old photo of them and posted it on Instagram.

Rochard said it was taken at Icaraí Beach in Niterói, near Rio de Janeiro, during a Pride parade in 2008. A video featuring Santos in drag during the Pride parade has also surfaced, and Rochard noted that Santos was interviewed at around the 4:19 mark.

The Brazilian drag queen also claimed that Santos disappeared for a while. When the lawmaker returned to Brazil, Rochard noted that he had more money, and "that was about the same time when the picture was taken."

She said Santos was never a professional drag performer, but the congressman competed in a drag beauty pageant in Rio de Janeiro. According to another source from Niteroi, who knew the lawmaker, Santos joined in drag queen beauty pageants as he aspired to be Miss Gay Rio de Janeiro, Reuters reported.

George Santos an Openly Gay Republican, but Supported Discriminatory Laws

When he ran for office, George Santos did speak truthfully about being openly gay. However, the New York Times reported that he also "embraced right-wing policies that many LGBTQ activists have decried as discriminatory."

Santos reportedly supported Florida's "Don't Say Gay" law, saying, "As a gay man, I stand proudly behind not teaching our children sex or sexual orientation." The Florida law disallowed teachers from talking about sexual orientation and gender identity in several elementary school grades.

 The New York attorney general's office announced last month that it is reviewing some of the issues about Santos after he admitted to fabricating his biography details, including his education, career background, and financial disclosures. The U.S. Attorney's office for the Eastern District of New York is also looking into his finances and financial disclosures.
