Elon Musk reportedly had meetings with Republicans during his first U.S. Capitol visit as Twitter CEO.

The social media platform's new CEO met with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and House Judiciary Committee chairman Jim Jordan on January 26. However, Musk did not schedule any meetings with any members of Congressional Democrats.

Musk tweeted about meeting Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, but the two did not have any formal or official meeting scheduled between them, according to Fox News.

They only saw each other while walking the halls of Congress, according to Jeffries' staff.

Several former Twitter executives are set to testify before the House Oversight Committee on February 8. It was projected that the document Musk released will be a heavy topic during the questioning.

Meanwhile, Democrats noted that they still want to hear from Musk.

Democratic Rep. Jan Schakowsky said he thinks "it's seriously a mistake," adding that it would be "a good thing to have him come in and explain himself," as cited in Politico.

Schakowsky added that she wants Musk to testify before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Innovation, Data, and Commerce.

However, being the newly appointed ranking member, she does not set the agenda for that panel anymore.

Elon Musk Twitter Files

A series of Twitter files has been released through the work of three journalists, Matt Taibibi, Bari Weiss, and Michael Shellenberger.

The contents of the Twitter files were mostly about the company's decision-making process around the same time that high-profile actions were made, including former U.S. President Donald Trump's ban on the platform in January 2020, according to CBS News.

Musk has reinstated some previously banned accounts under his leadership as those accounts belonging to Trump and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, as well as Kanye West. West was banned again less than two weeks later.

Twitter files show internal documents such as many Slack discussions between Twitter employees regarding their content moderation actions.

The first part of the five-part Twitter files series includes the decision of Twitter on news about Hunter Biden's laptop.

The second part discussed how Twitter used tools to lower the visibility of some accounts, with the third and fourth Twitter files showing Twitter's decision-making on Trump's ban.

The last part of the series provides more details about Trump's removal.

Musk went on to say that Twitter had promoted suppression of free speech with the released files.

Elon Musk's Twitter Account

Musk announced on Wednesday that he would be making this Twitter account private to gauge the level of engagement his tweets received, as cited by Gizmodo.

The new developments came after a right-wing commentator, Ian Miles Cheong, tweeted that he had set his account to private and found that he had more likes and views on his posts while his account was in private.

In a Twitter post now private, Musk noted that he will make his account private until tomorrow morning to test whether his private tweets will be more visible as compared to his public posts.
