George Santos Accused of Sexually Harassing Aide as New York Constituents Say He Is Not Doing His Job
Embattled Republican House Representative George Santos of New York is facing a plethora of scandals as comedians continue making fun of him and his constituents are reportedly unhappy. Now, a prospective aide is accusing him of sexual harassment.
A former prospective congressional aide named Derek Myers revealed in a letter to the House Ethics Committee that the New York Republican groped him when he worked for Santos's office as a volunteer. He also accused his former boss of ethics violations.
In his letter, Myers also requested an investigation into whether Santos's office followed the correct procedure about Myers' work there as a volunteer. He claims that his work as a "volunteer" in Santos' office included answering phones, reading mail, and corresponding with constituents. However, his status as a volunteer was done "within a congressional office without the correct procedures being followed is in violation of the House Ethics," according to NBC News.
Myers claimed that he was offered to work as a "volunteer" by Santos while his paperwork was being processed. However, the offer was rescinded last week.
The accuser also stated that the New York representative asked him on January 25 if he had an account on the popular gay dating app, Grindr, which Santos admitted to having an account. That same day, Santos was alone with Myers when he insisted that Myers should come and sit with him on a small sofa. The congressman then invited Myers to karaoke that night, but Myers declined. He then accused Santos of touching him in his groin, saying that his husband was out of town.
Myers also reportedly filed a report with the Capitol Police and a complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics.
Constituents in George Santos' New York District Say He is Not Doing His Job
As Santos is facing a brand-new ethics complaint and a new scandal, voters in New York's 3rd congressional district, which he represents in the House, are saying he is not doing a very good job in representing them.
Many voters made their feeling clear about Santos, as the new Congressman was still a no-show for them a month after being sworn in, and three months after winning the seat.
One voter, Judy Ornstein, spoke with NPR and said that reaching Santos is impossible and he is not doing his job.
"I have tried twice to call his office about a matter that I actually need constituent service on; I have a tax question," she says.
Saturday Night Live Pokes Fun at George Santos' Recently-Discovered Broadway Lie
Ever since George Santos' lies have exploded onto the political scene, from his past as a drag queen to scamming a veteran to impersonating Kevin McCarthy's top aide to get donations, comedians, particularly at late-night talk shows, have made fun of the embattled congressman.
Now, it was Saturday Night Live's turn, as they made fun of the latest lie that George Santos said, and that was his claims about being a former Broadway producer, having produced the Spider-Man Broadway show. However, the show's production denied he had any involvement.
Weekend Update host Colin Jost pointed out that Santos lied to possible donors "that he was a producer of the Broadway musical 'Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark.'" This led to the punchline that Santos "did end up working with the Green Goblin," as a photo of representative Marjorie Taylor Green dressed in green appeared on the screen.
