Donald Trump Rape Case: Judge Dismisses Ex-President's Offer to Provide DNA, Says It's a Stalling Tactic
Author E. Jean Carroll has accused Donald Trump of raping her in a department store's dressing room decades ago, and now, the former president is offering to provide DNA evidence that it was not him.
However, a federal judge rejected his offer on Wednesday, saying Trump's legal team was trying to stall the upcoming trial in the rape lawsuit filed last fall, The New York Times reported.
Judge Lewis A. Kaplan of the U.S. District Court in Manhattan noted that Trump's offer last week came after a deadline to disclose evidence. It also came a day after both parties had already filed a joint order agreeing that they would not call any DNA experts as witnesses.
Kaplan reiterated that this might be a delaying tactic from Trump, noting that stalling was notable "in view of the fact that Ms. Carroll now is 79 years old." According to the New York Times, Kaplan has already raised this matter in the past and that "there is no justification for such a deal."
Carroll is a notable author and a former columnist at Elle Magazine. She claimed that Trump raped her almost 30 years ago when she released her 2019 memoir. However, the former president has repeatedly denied these accusations and said he had never met her in his life.
Trump further noted that he would not even think about her because she was not his type. Joseph Tacopina, one of the attorneys representing the former president in this case, said his client did not seek to delay the trial date when he made the offer. The trial is set for April.

E. Jean Carroll Lawyer Says Donald Trump's DNA Offer Was Made in Bad Faith
The DNA offer by Donald Trump and his lawyers did not go well with E. Jean Carroll's legal team, who pointed out that the deadline for this had already passed.
One of the writer's attorneys, Roberta Kaplan, who is not related to the judge, said that this was just a delaying tactic made in bad faith, Business Insider reported.
"Trump may prefer to put off trial for another day, and he (and his new lawyers,) may regret decisions that he made earlier in this case, but that is no basis to again delay Carroll's day in court," she noted.
Roberta also called the offer a "blatant effort to influence the jury pool" and "yet another bad faith and legally frivolous delay tactic."
Donald Trump's Lawyers Trying to Block Evidence of Former President's Misogyny
E. Jean Carroll's attorneys are also trying to provide evidence of Donald Trump's misogyny for the trial. However, according to the Daily Beast, the former president's legal team is trying to block a long list of video clips and photos from being presented at trial.
It included an October video-recorded deposition of former Trump administration press secretary Stephanie Grisham. She previously wrote that the Trump White House was a "lewd pit of misogyny" and that the former president became obsessed with a young press aide and requested that she come aboard Air Force One "just to look at her ass."
Trump's attorney Alina Habba wanted to block Grisham's deposition as hearsay. Trump's lawyers also wanted to remove the recorded testimony of Jessica Leeds, whose breasts were allegedly fondled by Donald Trump during a flight over three decades ago. Habba noted that her testimony was prejudicial.
