'Snow White and the Huntsman 2' Plot and Release Date: Sequel Drops Kristen Stewart & Rupert Sanders After Affair, Adds 'The Walking Dead' Director
While the sequel to the film "Snow White and the Huntsman" has been confirmed for production, it has also been reported that the film would be dropping one of its stars.
After the humiliating scandal that transpired between "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart and "Snow White and the Huntsman" director Rupert Sanders following their on-set affair, the two have reportedly been dropped from the creation of the sequel.
Last Thursday, it was revealed that Frank Darabont of "The Walking Dead" was in the final talks to direct the next installment. At the same time, Kristen Stewart may not be completely absent from the following film but her role would be reduced to a cameo appearance -- if she gets lucky.
According to The Wrap, an insider told them that the new film would focus more on the role of Chris Hemsworth's character and therefore be aptly titled "The Huntsman."
Instead of a direct sequel to Snow White's adventure, the film will be more of a spin off, especially now that Hemsworth has become a bigger star since the movie was first released back in June 2012. On the other hand, Charlize Theron, who played the character of the evil queen, is expected to reprise her role as well.
The offer with Frank Darabont, who also directed "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Green Mile" has not yet been made official. But with him on deck, the blockbuster fairy tale can be expected to once again deliver a darker feel, especially with his experience in creating "The Walking Dead."
Since the script has not yet been finalized, Stewart still has the chance to have a handful of brief scenes. Also, the movie studio Universal has not yet confirmed any details about the upcoming film.
"Snow White and the Huntsman" grossed a total of almost $400 million worldwide and its sequel is set for release in 2016.
