Donald Trump Says New York Courthouse Workers 'Were 'Crying,' Apologizing to Him
Former President Donald Trump claimed that New York courthouse workers "were crying" and even apologized to him the day he was arraigned.
According to New York Post, Trump said that people who were working at the Manhattan courthouse had no problems "putting in murderers," but when he went to the courthouse, they were "actually crying" and saying, "I'm sorry."
"They were incredible... When I went to the courthouse, which is also a prison in a sense, they signed me in and I'll tell you people were crying," the former president said of the staff.
"It's a tough, tough place, and they were crying. They were actually crying. They said, 'I'm sorry'," he added.
Trump went on to say that the apologies and crying of the courthouse workers were in one sense "beautiful" as he claimed it meant "they get it."
Trump made the claims in his first interview since his arraignment. It was an interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson on the "Tucker Carlson Tonight" aired Tuesday night.
Trump turned himself in last Tuesday to authorities in New York, where he was arraigned on 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection to the hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal.
The former president pleaded not guilty to the charge. He has since denied having an affair with either woman and has called the entire investigation a witch hunt.
As he bashed Manhattan Attorney General Alvin Bragg and other prosecutors who charged him, Trump already called the cops and court employees "unbelievably nice" in a statement he released last week, Daily Mail reported.
Donald Trump Says New York Courthouse Workers' Crying'
In his interview with Tucker Carlson, Donald Trump maintained that the New York courthouse staff "were incredible." He also said he was innocent and argued that there was no case against him, BBC News reported.
Trump further noted that none of his legal woes would cause him to drop out of the 2024 presidential race.
"No, I'd never drop out. It's not my thing. I wouldn't do it," the former president said.
Trump also told Carlson that he believed President Joe Biden, 80, was no longer fit to serve four more years because "there's something wrong."
"Look, I watch him just like you do... I saw his answer today on television about whether or not he was going to run to a... guy named Al Roker. It was a long answer about the eggs and this and that, look I don't think he can," he noted.
The interview also discussed foreign policy, with Trump saying that Russian President Vladimir Putin was "very smart" and described the key leaders of Saudi Arabia as "great people."
Trump also lauded Chinese President Xi Jinping and called him a "brilliant man." He added that he and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un still "get along great to this day."
Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson Are Getting Along Well
The interview did not mention Tucker Carlson's private messages about the former president.
Many documents, including text messages and emails from Fox News executives and on-air personalities, were recently made public as part of Dominion Voting Systems' $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against the right-wing network.
Documents showed that Carlson texted a colleague two days before the January 6 Capitol riot, saying he was looking forward to ignoring Trump.
"We are very, very close to being able to ignore Trump most nights... I truly can't wait," Carlson wrote on January 4, 2021.
Tucker added: "I hate him passionately... I blew up at Peter Navarro today in frustration. I actually like Peter. But I can't handle much more of this."
BBC reported that there were no signs of any ill will between the two during the exclusive sit-down at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
