Louis Bernard Gaskin, 56, also known as the "ninja killer," has finally been executed in Florida last Wednesday. He is known for killing a couple visiting from New Jersey.

According to the Associated Press, Gaskin was pronounced dead at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday after receiving a lethal injection. The Florida governor's office confirmed his execution.

The killings of Robert Sturmfels, 56, and Georgette Sturmfels, 55, a couple from New Jersey who were staying at their winter home in Flager County, Florida on that fateful day on December 20, 1989, rocked the Sunshine State and was considered one of the state's grisliest homicides of that time, grabbing headlines across the United States.

The relatives of the Strumfels were reportedly not present during the convicted killer's execution. Gaskin got that "ninja killer" moniker because he wore an all-black ninja suit when he attacked the couple. However, he did not kill them with the usual ninja weapons; rather, he killed them with a gun.

The Final Hours of the 'Ninja Killer' Louis Bernard Gaskin

On Wednesday morning, Gaskin woke up at 4:45 a.m. A few hours later, at around 9:45 a.m., Department of Corrections spokesperson Kayla McLaughlin Smith revealed that the "ninja killer" had his final meal, which included BBQ pork ribs, pork and turkey neck, Buffalo wings, shrimp fried rice, french fries, and water.

The New York Post reported that before his execution, Gaskin was visited by his sister, but it was reported that he did not meet with any spiritual adviser.

Before he was executed, Gaskin was asked for a final statement, and he said, "Justice is not about the crime. It's not about the criminal. It's about the law." He then finished his final words by saying, "Look at my case."

At around 6:02 p.m., the "ninja killer" began receiving the lethal cocktail of drugs before a doctor went inside the death chamber at 6:14 p.m. to examine him. He was soon declared dead.

Gaskin is the latest in a string of death warrants signed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. He is expected to run for the presidency this year, challenging former president Donald Trump for the Republican nomination. He presents himself as tough on crime with this string of death warrants, though it should be noted that Florida still has a higher crime rate than New York, which he often accuses of being crime-ridden.

Other convicted murderers executed by DeSantis include Donald Dillbeck, who was executed for the 1990 murder of Faye Vann. Another man scheduled to be executed is Darryl B. Barwick for the 1986 killing of Rebecca Wendt.

Who Is Louis Bernard Gaskin, the Infamous 'Ninja Killer?'

The murder of the New Jersey couple happened on December 20, 1989, with Gaskin dressing up as a ninja as he planned to loot their winter home. He went inside armed with a semi-automatic .22-caliber rifle, according to Murderpedia.

The couple was watching TV when he struck, shooting at the couple through a window before stealing several items inside the house, including jewelry, VCRs, lamps, a clock, an iron, and household appliances.

Gaskin was arrested that same year and later confessed to his crimes. He was sentenced to execution soon after.
