Over half of Donald Trump's fake electors in Georgia have taken immunity deals in the Fulton County DA's investigation into the former president's election meddling to keep himself in power after the 2020 presidential elections, which he lost.

In addition, the New York Times is reporting that Georgia prosecutors are now nearing charging decisions as the investigations into whether or not former President Donald Trump and his allies meddled in the elections in Georgia back in 2020.

The Georgia investigations are running alongside the federal investigations done by special counsel Jack Smith into the former president's attempts to overturn the 2020 election results in a bid to hold onto the presidency.

Fulton County Fani Willis has spent over two years investigating Trump's alleged election meddling and is now reportedly weighing which charges to give the former president, his accomplices, and his fake electors.

The immunity deals are an indication that the Georgia election probe is moving forward, with Willis previously hinting that she could announce charges for Donald Trump and his allies as early as July 2023.

Eight Fake Electors Taking Immunity Deals Are All Notable Republican Activists

According to Politico, the false electors who were part of the scheme to overthrow the will of the people of Georgia during the elections were all notable Republican activists, including David Shafer, the head of the Georgia Republican Party.

Eight of them have now flipped and have all taken immunity deals with the Fulton County DA. This was revealed by the attorney for some of these fake electors, Kimberley Debrow, in her court filing last Friday. The deal was reportedly reached last month.

The scheme was reportedly hatched by Trump and his inner circle, and it involves having fake electors from the Republican Party vote for him in seven states that he lost, subverting the election results and therefore the will of the people. The scheme has been investigated not just by the Fulton County DA but also by the House select committee and special counsel Jack Smith.

It was reported that not all of these fake electors knew their signatures would be used by Trump in his efforts to overturn the elections in January 6. Instead, they were told they were only signing "contingent" certificates that would only be used in case the courts reversed Trump's election loss.

However, some of them were also well-known Trump allies and state party chairs who, more or less, had a bigger role in Trump's election meddling schemes.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp Moving Away From Donald Trump, But State Party Still Strongly Backs Former President

Georgia's Republican governor, Brian Kemp, did not make Trump happy when he refused to play along with the then-president's schemes to overturn the elections. Ever since, Kemp has veered away from Trump, even as the former president threw a primary challenger against him.

However, despite the Republican governor not backing Trump in this fractured Republican Party, state GOP members are still heavily throwing their lot with the former president, according to the Associated Press.

Republicans in Georgia's 1st Congressional District elected the person Trump backed to challenge Kemp in the primary last year, Kandiss Taylor, to be their chair. She infamously ran on a "Jesus Guns Babies" platform.

Another notable reason Georgia Republicans are still strongly pro-Trump was when Republican activists considered a resolution rejecting the results of the 2020 elections in Atlanta's 6th Congressional District.

This has caused a deep divide within the party in Georgia, with the pro-Kemp former state Republican Party chairman John Watson saying, "In many ways, the Georgia Republican Party is a train that has left Crazytown, and the governor is trying to present a scenario and lead and demonstrate that that's not the path to success."
