South Carolina: Protester Calls Ron DeSantis a 'F**king Fascist'; Florida Governor Reacts
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis continued his presidential campaign with a stop in South Carolina. The controversial politician also drew protesters, and he even sparred with one of them.
There were several protesters at the DeSantis event, but one woman directly confronted the Florida governor and heckled him, shouting, "The right to health care, to their kid's health care, you're a f------ fascist."
The heckler also added, "We Say Gay!" She was reportedly heckling DeSantis about his recently-signed legislation that banned transgender children in the state from receiving gender-affirming care. These include puberty blockers and sex-reassignment surgeries. She was also hitting him about his controversial "Don't Say Gay" law that bans the discussion of LGBTQ topics with children.
The crowd booed the protester, though DeSantis did reply and said, "We're not going to let you impose an agenda on our kids. We're going to stand up for our kids. We're going to make sure to do it right."
This drew some cheers from the crowd as the protester was escorted out. "Those people like that in Florida are the people we beat every single day on policy," DeSantis added. "We do not let them win. We win all these battles. We're not letting them indoctrinate our kids, not on our watch."
DeSantis's policies have been aimed at furthering his culture war narrative, drawing criticisms from various groups, from LGBTQ groups to the NAACP to Latino groups.

Florida Still Lagging in Healthcare Under Ron DeSantis
As Ron DeSantis campaigns to take the presidency, he touted Florida's wins in the "culture war." However, the Los Angeles Times pointed out that he is not discussing some issues where the state is lagging, including healthcare which DeSantis has largely not done anything about as governor except for that gender-affirming care ban.
Florida currently has the third-highest rate of uninsured people under 65 in the United States, at 15.1%. This may be because DeSantis was one of the biggest opponents of the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare, while he was still in Congress, with him barely even talking about healthcare at the height of the pandemic, leading to Florida having one of the highest death rates with COVID-19.
Florida is one of just 10 states that have not signed on to an Obamacare expansion. This means that a majority of low-income people still do not qualify for Medicaid in the state.
Donald Trump Blasts Ron DeSantis on Policy and Personality
As the Republican primaries heat up, Donald Trump kept up his attacks on DeSantis and blasted the Florida governor on his policies, as well as his personality, during a recent interview.
However, according to Politico, Trump did not give a definitive answer when asked if he would endorse DeSantis should he become the GOP nominee.
"It's too early to say. So far, I'm not a fan of the way that he's running," Trump said before attacking DeSantis again.
"The guy's doing ads. He's acting as a candidate, but he doesn't have to play by the rules because he hasn't filed, which is a total violation." However, this was fact-checked, and it was found that an independent political committee is running the ads, not DeSantis himself.
He then called the Florida governor disloyal and a "dead man walking" before Trump endorsed him. The former president then added, "He's got no personality. And I don't think he's got a lot of political skill," before attacking his policies. "If you look at what DeSantis did, a lot of people don't even know if he knew what he was doing," said Trump.
