Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 vs Galaxy Note 2: Which Phablet is Better?
Samsung has added yet another selection to its current line of phablets, making the decision harder for consumers.
The South Korean tech giant recently released a new smartphone-slash-tablet unit last May -- the Galaxy Mega 6.3. While this allows for more options, the move has also given its fans quite a headache: choosing between the Galaxy Mega 6.3 and Galaxy Note 2.
Both phablets have their own advantages over the other -- each one catering to different users' preference on dimension, weight, display, processor, internal storage and price.
In terms of dimension, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 measures 167.6 x 88 x 8 mm, making it thinner compared to Galaxy Note 2's 80.5 x 151.1 x 9.4 mm measurement. However, although thinner, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 weighs 16.5 grams heavier than the Note 2. It weighs in at 199 grams, while the latter at 182.5 grams.
As for screen size, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 definitely dwarfs Galaxy Note 2 by almost an inch - 0.8. The Galaxy Mega's 6.3 inch TFT display towers over Galaxy Note 2's 5.5 inch Super AMOLED display.
While both phablets sport a 720 HD display, the Galaxy Note 2 boasts of a sharper screen resolution at 267 pixels-per-inch compared to the Galaxy Mega 6.3's 233 pixels-per-inch screen.
As for processors, the Note 2 tops the Mega 6.3. It has a 1.6 GHz Exynos Quad processor, while Galaxy Mega 6.3 - although more recently released - runs on a 1.7 GHz Snapdragon 400 dual-core processor. This allows Galaxy Note 2 users to enjoy a more fluid and faster phablet experience.
The Mega 6.3 also loses to Galaxy Note 2 in internal storage and RAM. The Note comes with a 2GB RAM and either 16GB or 32GB internal storage, while the Mega works with a 1.5 RAM and either 8GB or 16GB internal storage. Both phablets do support memory expansion for up to 64GB through microSD cards.
As of now, Galaxy Mega 6.3 is confirmed to be available at AT&T on August 23 for $149.99. On the other hand, Galaxy Note 2, which has been launched October 2012, is tagged at $299.99 making it twice the price of Galaxy Mega 6.3.
