Embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford returns to work today after a two-month absence and rehab stint. Ford has had his struggles with drugs (crack cocaine) and alcohol.

Ford's acrimonious relationship with the press led him to ban a good portion of the Canadian media from attending his welcome back news conference at 3:30 p.m. Monday. The event is invitation-only, and roughly 25 people, Ford included, are expected to pack into the narrow protocol office where the event is being held.

CBC's Steven D'Souza tweeted that the Ford will take to the podium for a brief amount of time: "Hearing from Mayor's staff that Ford will be speaking for 15 minutes."

One blacklisted reporter of the highly respected The Globe and Mail newspaper tweeted her shock and bemusement at being banned from the news conference.

Her tweet read, "Well this is interesting. I have been blocked from attending Mayor Rob Ford's press conference tomorrow via @a_massoudi."

Doolittle followed that tweet with a more serious one: "Apparently Toronto Mayor Rob Ford and press officer @a_massoudi is also COMPLETELY blocking media like NOW magazine. Wow."

The full contents of the presser will be available to all news outlets via separate audio and video feeds. But given that a few not-so-glamourous pictures led to the Ford scandal developing, perhaps it's in the mayor's best interests to not be seen but heard.

Many have been put off by Ford's latest antics. According to Canada's National Post, Toronto City Hall Press Gallery President David Nickle wrote in an open letter that, "Choking off access to any one of those outlets or journalists is a disservice to Torontonians, by their duly elected mayor. It thwarts democracy."

But banned or not, without a doubt reporters and viewers worldwide will want to hear what the boisterous mayor has to say for himself. Ford may not be the most reliable or picture-perfect mayor, but he knows how to draw a crowd and keep it entertained.
