Donald Trump January 6 Indictment: Republicans Divided While Capitol Police Celebrate
The indictment of former President Donald Trump over his actions leading to January 6 has elicited various reactions, with many happy over it while others are angry. It has divided Republicans while also galvanizing critics.
Meanwhile, the Capitol Police, which was on the frontlines of the January 6 Capitol insurrection, celebrated the indictment of the person believed to have spurned the rioters.
While some Republicans either try to tow the party line or try to woo Trump voters in case Trump is forced to drop out of the race, others chose to stand up to Trump in their own way. One of them is Vice President Mike Pence, who was targeted by Trump supporters who wanted to hang him on January 6.
"Today's indictment serves as an important reminder: anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be President of the United States," said Trump's former vice president. He was pressured by Trump and his allies to overturn the election. Instead, Pence chose the constitution and certified Joe Biden's win.
Meanwhile, other Republicans like Kevin McCarthy, Ron DeSantis, Jim Jordan, and Vivek Ramaswamy all slammed the indictment and called it a political attack against Biden's leading opponent in 2024, according to Al Jazeera News.
Not all of those running were trying to woo Trump voters, though, as former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson stated that Trump should end his campaign "for the good of the country."
Capitol Police Celebrate Latest Donald Trump Indictment
While many Republicans slammed the indictment, the Capitol Police, who felt the full force of the January 6 riots, were celebrating. Unlike many of the Republicans, they were actually the ones who got beaten up by rioters who claim they support the police.
According to Business Insider, the US Capitol Police and DC Metropolitan Police, who were involved in the response to January 6, were mostly happy with the indictment.
Former Capitol Police Officer Michael Fanone said, "Donald Trump spent his entire lifetime f*cking around and he's about to find out. I'd like to think that in some small way, I played a part in all this."

Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn, on the other hand, stated that all he wants is "accountability and justice for the law enforcement men and women who fought bravely on January 6."
Meanwhile, the DC Metropolitan Police Officer who was crushed by a mob of rioters on January 6 stated that he is "grateful for Jack Smith, his team, and all who aided the investigation for getting us here" and added that the charges against Trump are only the beginning.
January 6 Capitol Rioter Celebrates Donald Trump Indictment
While many of the January 6 rioters remain loyal to Donald Trump, some have become disillusioned and are blasting the former president, celebrating his January 6 indictment. This includes 70-year-old grandmother Pam Hemphill, who pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful parading, demonstrating, or picketing during that fateful day.
She stated that Trump manipulated her and reminded the former president that nobody is above the law, even him.
"Trump used to tell us that about [former Secretary of State] Hillary [Clinton] or [President Joe] Biden, so it applies to him as well. The Republican Party used to be the party of law and order. I'd like to see it return to that principle," the grandmother told Newsweek. "[Trump] manipulated me to be there and fight for him."
