Donald Trump 2020 Election Scandal: Jack Smith Wants January 2024 Trial Date and Ex-POTUS Goes on Massive Rant
Donald Trump did not seem too happy with Special Counsel Jack Smith requesting a January 2, 2024 trial date over his 2020 election interference case as he went on another all-caps rant after the date was proposed.
"Deranged Jack Smith has just asked for a trial on the Biden Indictment to take place on January 2, just ahead of the important Iowa Caucuses," wrote the ex-POTUS on his social media platform, Truth Social. "Only an out of touch lunatic would ask for such a date, ONE DAY into the New Year, and maximum Election Interference with IOWA! Such a trial, which should never take place due to my First Amendment Rights, and massive BIDEN CORRUPTION, should only happen, if at all, AFTER THE ELECTION. The same with other Fake Biden Indictments. ELECTION INTERFERENCE!"
According to The Guardian, Jack Smith has been very aggressive as of late, with prosecutors arguing that "A January 2 trial date would vindicate the public's strong interest in a speedy trial."
In the filing, prosecutors added, "It is difficult to imagine a public interest stronger than the one in this case in which the defendant - the former president of the United States - is charged with three criminal conspiracies."
"It appears that defense counsel is already planning which motions the defendant will file," said the prosecution, noting that Donald Trump's legal team already knows what arguments will be making during the trial. "It appears that defense counsel is already planning which motions the defendant will file," added prosecutors.
Georgia DA Fani Willis Tells Staff To Ignore Donald Trump's Attacks
The federal election interference case is not the only election battle that Trump might go to jail for, as he is facing another round of indictments, this time from Georgia. The former president has since stepped up his attacks on Fulton County DA Fani Willis as those indictments loom.

However, as the Independent reported, Willis is telling her staff to ignore Trump's "derogatory and false" rants and attacks and continue working on the case.
A new memo was released from her office regarding this, telling staff, "You may not comment in any way on the ad or any of the negativity that may be expressed against me, your colleagues, this office in the coming days, weeks, or months."
Trump is spreading rumors on social media that Willis is having an affair with a rapper that her office is investigating. He did not present any evidence regarding this.
Donald Trump and Valet Walt Nauta Plead Not Guilty to Additional Classified Documents Charges
Trump's legal troubles continue, though, as he is not just facing a Georgia election probe and the special counsel's 2020 election interference and January 6 investigation but also the classified documents probe. Additional charges were made for the latter as new details emerged.
However, as the former POTUS and his valet Walt Nauta faced these new charges, they pleaded "not guilty" once again. A lawyer representing the ex-POTUS entered the plea on his behalf as Trump previously waived his right to attend the hearing, according to Al Jazeera News. Nauta was present during the hearing, however, and also entered a "not guilty" plea.
These new charges were in addition to Trump's 37-count indictment and Nauta's six. They were added after Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos De Oliveira tried to destroy security tapes crucial to the investigation. The Trump employee soon became the third defendant in the case.
