Donald Trump Attacks Federal Judge Overseeing Election Interference Case Despite Warning
Despite Judge Tanya Chutkan warning him and his lawyers against making "inflammatory statements," Donald Trump continued his online attacks on the federal judge on social media with a stunning 1:00 AM post that may have violated the judge's protective order regarding Trump's federal election interference case.
His latest attack was posted Monday on Truth Social at around 1:00 AM. The former president claimed that Judge Chutkan, who is overseeing his federal election interference case, is somebody who "obviously wants me behind bars. VERY BIASED & UNFAIR!"
Chutkan has been known to be harsh in sentencing January 6 rioters who stormed the Capitol, attacked police officers, and threatened to "Hang Mike Pence," all in the name of Donald Trump. The ex-POTUS then quoted her in all-caps to imply that she is anti-Trump.
The quote was what she said in the sentencing of one January 6 rioter, where she noted that the insurrectionists were carrying flags and wearing hats that point to Trump.
"It's blind loyalty to one person who, by the way, remains free to this day," she said in that rioter's sentencing, and this quote was among the words she said that Trump posted on social media.
According to Salon, Trump also made a baseless accusation that Chutkan "openly admitted she's running election interference against Trump." Legal analysts pushed back on that claim as Chutkan stated that Trump running for the presidency would not impact her decision-making.
Donald Trump Openly Daring Judge Tanya Chutkan To Act
Judge Tanya Chutkan sided with Trump on the protective order argument and granted a limited protective order that his lawyers asked for. However, she also warned the former POTUS that his First Amendment rights are not absolute.
"I intend to ensure the orderly administration of justice in this case as I would with any other case," she said in her decision on the protective order last Friday. "The more a party makes inflammatory statements about this case which could taint the jury pool or intimidate potential witnesses, the greater the urgency will be that we proceed to trial to ensure a jury pool from which we can select an impartial jury."
However, with his latest round of inflammatory posts, legal experts are saying that Trump may be daring Chutkan to act. Prosecutors asked for a January 2 trial date, right in the middle of the primary campaign period. With this attack, the judge may be more inclined to go with the prosecutors on this one.
"He is just daring the judge now," national security attorney Bradley P. Moss told USA Today, implying that Trump may be testing Chutkan.
Why Did Judge Tanya Chutkan Warn Donald Trump?
In an earlier post on his Truth Social page, former President Donald Trump stated, "IF YOU GO AFTER ME, I'M COMING AFTER YOU!" The post then prompted Special Counsel Jack Smith to file for a protective order to ensure that Trump would not divulge information regarding the case to the public to spin it to his advantage.
However, Trump continued his attacks, going after Chutkan and potential star witness Mike Pence. This made the judge warn Trump attorneys regarding their client's behavior.
