A prominent Philadelphia criminal defense attorney is shocked to learn that his teen son may have been helping terrorist activity in the US after the FBI arrested the boy at their Pennsylvania home.

Qawi Abdul-Rahman is currently one of the best criminal defense attorneys in Philadelphia, but his son is now facing some very serious allegations from the FBI. These include arson, criminal conspiracy, weapons of mass destruction, and risking catastrophe.

The Independent reported that the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office called the attorney's son's alleged actions "the most serious alleged terrorist activity prosecuted in Philadelphia County court in recent history."

The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office also released a statement, saying that "The work of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force potentially thwarted a catastrophic terrorist attack in the name of a perverted ideology that in no way, shape, or form represents the beliefs of the overwhelming majority of peace-seeking people of faith, including Muslims."

It added, "We intend to pursue full accountability for these crimes and will continue to work vigilantly with our law enforcement partners to protect all of our communities from hateful, ideologically driven acts of violence."

Philadelphia Father Admits He Did Not Know That His Son Is in the FBI's Terrorist Watchlist

Qawi Abdul-Rahman recently spoke with The Daily Beast regarding his teen son's arrest on terrorism charges. He admitted, "I didn't see it coming at all. At all."

The prominent Philly lawyer recently campaigned to be a Common Pleas Court judge in Pennsylvania but his law career got a massive bump in the road thanks to his son.

"I go to court because I want people to know that Muslims are out here doing things in the community, for the community. I'm an American like everyone else," he told the outlet.

He also revealed that when the FBI raided his home to arrest his son, he was at work.

Abdul-Rahman stated that one of his other children called to inform him that his home was being raided by the FBI, but neither he nor his wife were home at that time, just their minor children, including his teen son accused of being a terrorist.

"That was the horrible part... This is a family neighborhood. I was at work, I was nowhere near the house. Just the children. It's amazing. A man and two girls. Children. Everyone was terrified. I talked to them when it was happening and I rushed from work to here [home]," he said in the interview.

Philadelphia Teen Helping a Foreign Terrorist Group, Says FBI

Because he is still a minor, the accused terrorist's name was not released to the public. However, the FBI is accusing him of buying and testing bomb-making materials in support of a foreign terror group.

Among the bomb-making materials that he would purchase include chemicals, wiring, and tactical equipment associated with improvised explosive devices, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. He also conducted "generalized research" on potential targets.

The FBI also noted that the teenager has been planning to travel overseas "for the purpose of joining or supporting terrorist activity." He is facing up to 20 years in prison, though it is not clear if the boy already has a lawyer given that his father is one of Philadelphia's most prominent defense attorneys.
