Donald Trump's Appeal To Delay Trial To Determine Damages in New York Fraud Case Denied
Donald Trump suffered yet another legal setback as a New York appeals court rejected his attempt to delay the start of the trial to determine the damages in the Trump Organization's fraud case.
The trial's start date was set on Monday, October 2, with Judge Arthur Engoron already issuing a summary judgment that Donald Trump and his adult sons, Eric, and Don Jr., were liable for defrauding banks and businesses in New York by inflating their assets.
According to Yahoo! News, in this case, New York Attorney General Letitia James promised that she would call not just Donald Trump, but his two adult sons as well, to be witnesses in the trial. She was the one who brought the civil case against the former president.
With the judge already issuing a ruling beforehand, the trial will only be determining how much Trump, his sons, and the Trump Organization must pay in damages for committing fraud in New York. However, it should be noted that AG James is seeking $250 million in damages from the Trumps.
Trump has employed his usual "delay delay delay" tactics in this one and even sought other measures to delay the trial, including requesting to have Engoron recuse himself from the case.
Following the judge's summary judgment, Trump and his sons attacked him on social media, with Eric Trump insisting that he had done nothing wrong before accusing the judge of not being impartial. Meanwhile, Don Jr. wrote on X, "Anyone with even a basic understanding of the law should read the ruling and see for themselves how nonsensical and asinine the whole thing is."

New York Ruling Could Mean the End of Donald Trump's Business Empire, the Trump Organization
Trump might not just lose his license to do business in New York, but also be barred from doing business in the Empire State. This means that he may be forced to give up several prized New York Properties, from his Wall Street office building, his golf courses, and a suburban estate. However, he could also be forced to give up the crown jewel of his business empire, Trump Tower.
Engoron's fraud ruling against the Trumps and the Trump Organization is the culmination of a yearslong investigation by the New York Attorney General's Office that took a deep look into the Trump Organization's business dealings, according to the Associated Press. Previously, James's office found several key Trump Organization executives guilty of fraud in a separate criminal case.
Donald Trump Would Not Try To Move Georgia Election Fraud Case to Federal Court
Meanwhile, in Georgia, after former Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows failed in his bid to move his case to a federal court, Donald Trump has decided he would not try and do the same.
According to The Guardian, Trump's lawyers stated that the ex-president would not move his trial from state to federal court. He previously indicated that he would try to seek the case be moved to federal court should Meadows succeed with his case. However, the former chief of staff was denied earlier this month, though Meadows is appealing the decision.
He argued that he helped Trump in trying to reverse the Georgia election results in 2020 as part of his capacity as a federal official. The judge rebuffed this argument.
