'X-Men: Apocalypse' Teaser and Release Date News: Horsemen Trailer Sequel Confirmed, Director Tells Marvel Comic Fans
As the "X-Men" franchise of Marvel Films grows bigger and becomes more streamlined, especially after "X-Men: Days of Future Past" made a milestone at the box office, director Bryan Singer could not help but tease the fans about the upcoming installment of the mutant superhero films.
Singer created a new account on Instagram last Wednesday specifically to share the first page of the "X-Men: Apocalypse" script in a photo he posted on the same day. Prior to this, the most information fans had received about the next "X-Men" film was the post-credits scene of "Days of the Future Past," showing a man in a robe on top of a sand hill, controlling giant blocks to build a pyramid. Many people are shown worshipping him while bowing and intoning a rhythmic chant. Then the camera swung to reveal a gray-skinned man and four horsemen in the background. It did not take long for hardcore fans and comic readers to tell that the next villain would be the all-powerful Apocalypse.
While neither official confirmation nor exact details have been given regarding Singer's involvement with the "X-Men" sequel, this might as well serve as an indirect confirmation that he will be directing "X-Men: Apocalypse." However, his directing job may have been put on the line after someone sued him for sexual assault.
On his Twitter account, Singer posted a photo of himself with Michael Dougherty and Simon Kinberg working on the script last week. Dan Harris is also providing his expertise in helping create the screenplay.
"X-Men: Days of Future Past" beat "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" as the highest grossing film so far this year worldwide with a whopping $712.7 million. It was a bigger achievement than any other "X-Men" film -- and it was all just in one month. The next highest-grossing "X-Men" installment is "The Last Stand" with $459.3 million worldwide.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" is set for release on May 27, 2016.
