Powerball Jackpot: Winning Numbers for $1.76 Billion Prize and Where Was It Sold
One of the biggest Powerball jackpots in history has now been won, and once again, the winner is from California, matching all six winning Powerball numbers to win the massive $1.76 billion jackpot prize.
There had been no winner for 35 consecutive drawings, with the prize gradually increasing until it reached a jaw-dropping $1.76 billion, which is the second-largest jackpot in the history of Powerball. Much like the previous winner, this was also won in California.
According to USA Today, the winning numbers were 24, 52, 40, 22, and 64, with the Powerball of 10. All five "white balls" must be exact, and so is the red "Powerball" to win that massive jackpot. There were Match 5 + Power Play winners in Arizona and Pennsylvania, winning $2 million for matching all five "White Balls" and doing the Power Play option that increases the price to 2x the amount.
There were also $1 million Match 5 in other states. They did not choose the Power Play option but still won $1 million. Two of the winners came from California, another two came from Florida. There were also winners of this prize in New York, Oklahoma, and Virginia.
Consolation prizes are also won by people who match four white balls and the red Powerball, and that is around $50,000. Those who matched four white balls, as well as three white balls plus the red Powerball, also win $100 each.
Those who matched three white balls only get $7, and so do people who matched two white balls and the red Powerball. Those who only got the red Powerball correctly, as well as those who matched one white ball plus the red Powerball, get $4.
Where in California Was the Winning Powerball Ticket Sold?
As for where that winning ticket was sold. it came from the Midway Market & Liquors in Frazier Park, California. It is located around 75 miles north of Los Angeles. Per California law, the winner's name will be revealed to the public.
According to The New York Post, the new billionaire is believed to be a "local Frazier Park resident who visits the store every day" and that the winner "religiously" plays the lottery. This has not been confirmed yet, though.
"There's people that come in every day to get their tickets, we know them by name and I'm sure someone's gonna be screaming up and down," said a worker at the store. "They come in every day to get their tickets religiously and a lot of them said, 'Oh if I win, I'm gonna get you a new truck,' so where's my truck I'll be waiting."
Powerball Winner's Conundrum: Annuity or Cash Option?
Powerball jackpot winners can choose one of two options to get their money, and they are an "annuity option" or a lump sum cash payout. Those who choose the lump sum can get the money as soon as possible, but it would not be the prize pool amount.
As for those who choose the annuity option, they would get the jackpot amount but would get it in an annual payout over 30 years. The sum paid rises by 5% each year. While most lottery winners choose the lump sum amount, financial advisers say the annuity option may be better.
