Julianne Hough and Ryan Seacrest split up last March, and the actress and dancer has opened up about it to Redbook.

The Redbook cover star it was her fault she and Seacrest split up.

"Every relationship, there was nothing wrong or bad, but there was nothing right," she said. "I had one foot out because I didn't want to get hurt. And I didn't say what was on my mind because I didn't want to ruffle any feathers."

She didn't feel she was being herself, and things would have gone differently if she could have.

"I needed to be perfect," she said. "But now I'm not holding anything back because I'd rather get my heart broken than never know what it is to be completely, madly in love. If I had been this open in my last relationship, who knows?"

Hough dated Seacrest for three years, and she started dating hockey player Brooks Laich late last year.

It wasn't until she went on a seminar with her family that she decided to change her approach to relationships. She was seeing a few men at a time but decided to break it off because she thought it wasn't going anywhere.

The next day her "Curve" co-star introduced her to Laich.

"It couldn't have been a better time," she said. "We've been open and honest from day one."

Hough also explained that she experienced bullying in high school.

After returning from dance training in London, people thought she was stuck up. Plus, she didn't know how to speak to them, which she thinks added to her classmates' negative thoughts of her.

"I got asked to prom by a guy, and he ended up ditching me that day because the girls had told him to do it," she said.
