'50 Shades of Grey' Casting Rumors: Chris Evans or Charlie Hunnam As Christian Grey? E.L. James Twitter Pic Hints
Chris Evans and Charlie Hunnam have joined the list of actors rumored to play Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of E.L. James' bestselling novel, Fifty Shades of Grey.
Rumors that Chris Evans will star in the film were sparked by a photo that author James uploaded on her Twitter account. In the photo, James is smiling with a hand on the stomach of Evans, 32. The caption reads, "Having fun... ;)"
Evans is famous for his roles as the Human Torch in Fantastic Four and its sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and for his performance as Captain America in Captain America: The First Avenger and Marvel's The Avengers.
The former superhero is not the first to be rumored as the next Christian Grey, however.
Recently, Charlie Hunnam, who plays Jackson "Jax" Teller in the FX television series "Sons of Anarchy," was also named as a contender. His representatives, however, said the decision was yet to be finalized.
Other actors rumored to have been considered for the role of Grey include Alex Pettyfer, Ian Somerhalder, Ryan Gosling and Robert Pattinson.
Dakota Johnson, who appeared in The Social Network and 21 Jump Street, has recently been rumored to join the cast as well. The actress is allegedly under consideration for the lead female role, Anastasia "Ana" Steel.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Universal has said they are far from making casting offers as of now.
Meanwhile, a long list of actors have been recruited into the rumor mill of possibilities...and subsequently denied it. This list includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jerry O' Connell, Armie Hammer and Emma Watson.
"Who here actually thinks I would do 50 Shades of Grey as a movie? Like really. For real. In real life," Watson wrote via her Twitter account.
The official cast announcement for Fifty Shades of Grey is scheduled to be released in a few weeks.
Fifty Shades of Gray is expected to be in theaters Aug. 1 of next year. The film will be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.
