Elon Musk Reveals 'Thermonuclear Lawsuit' Amid White Supremacy Accusations on X
In the wake of major advertisers, including Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, Comcast/NBCUniversal, Lionsgate, Paramount Global, and IBM, announcing a halt to their ad spending on the social media platform X, owner Elon Musk has responded with plans for a "thermonuclear lawsuit" against Media Matters, according to Variety.
The Elon Musk thermonuclear lawsuit comes after the research group claimed to find ads on X/Twitter running alongside pro-Nazi and X White Supremacy ads posts.
The decision by several prominent advertisers to pause their ads on X was triggered by Musk's recent endorsement of an antisemitic conspiracy theory suggesting that Jewish people "promote hatred against whites."
Apple has also joined the ranks of companies suspending advertising spending on X in response to these developments, according to an Axios report.
Musk, in his late-night legal threat on X, took specific aim at Media Matters, accusing the watchdog group of manipulating research about advertising on the platform.
Elon Musk declared his intention to file a "thermonuclear lawsuit" against Media Matters and all those he perceived as involved in a "fraudulent attack on our company," which includes their board, donors, and network of dark money.

Media Matters Responds to Elon Musk Thermonuclear Lawsuit
Media Matters responded to Musk's legal threat, characterizing him as a "bully" and dismissing the prospect of the Elon Musk lawsuit as "meritless," Reuters reports.
Media Matters President Angelo Carusone highlighted Elon Musk's admission that the ads ran alongside pro-Nazi content identified by the group. Carusone expressed confidence in their legal standing if Musk decided to pursue a lawsuit. This isn't the first instance of Musk making legal threats, as he had previously targeted the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), a nonprofit combating antisemitism, regarding X's loss of ad revenue.
However, he has yet to follow through with a lawsuit against the ADL.
Civil rights groups have criticized Musk's ownership of X, noting a surge in hate speech on the platform since he acquired it in October 2022 and reduced content moderation.
The White House also condemned Musk's endorsement of a "hideous" antisemitic conspiracy theory, labeling it as an "abhorrent promotion of antisemitic and racist hate" inconsistent with American values.
Elon Musk Declares New Policy for X
X CEO, Elon Musk, declared a new policy on Friday, stating that expressions such as "decolonization," "from the river to the sea," and similar euphemisms that imply genocide would not be tolerated, per CNBC.
Clear calls for extreme violence, according to Musk, go against X's terms of service and will result in account suspension.
Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), praised Musk's commitment to suspending accounts engaged in what he perceives as genocidal speech.
Despite Musk's persistent criticism of the ADL, a Jewish-led organization combating hate speech and discrimination, and his previous threats to sue, no legal action against the ADL has been initiated.
Meanwhile, the Elon Musk thermonuclear lawsuit against Media Matters remains uncertain, and the timing and jurisdiction, if any, are unclear.
X is headquartered in San Francisco, while Media Matters, the media watchdog group, is based in Washington, D.C.
