As his attorneys are trying to appeal his disqualification in Maine, former President Donald Trump once again spread false information that has previously been debunked.

He was disqualified on the grounds of the 14th Amendment, which bars anybody who has engaged in an insurrection from taking office.

Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to rant about former Republican Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, Democratic California Rep. Nancy Pelosi, and Jack Smith. There, he repeated a debunked claim.

"Why did American Disaster Liz Cheney, who suffers from TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome), and was defeated for Congress by the largest margin for a sitting Congressman or Congresswoman in the history of our Country, ILLEGALLY DELETE & DESTROY most of the evidence, and related items, from the January 6th Committee of Political Thugs and Misfits," he write on social media.

"THIS ACT OF EXTREME SABOTAGE MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR MY LAWYERS TO PROPERLY PREPARE FOR, AND PRESENT, A PROPER DEFENSE OF THEIR CLIENT, ME. All of the information on Crazy Nancy Pelosi turning down 10,000 soldiers that I offered to guard the Capitol Building, and beyond, is gone," he continued in his rant.

This claim that Trump offered 10,000 soldiers was debunked by the Washington Post, which found that the number was just an estimate of how many troops it would take to control the crowd and Trump himself may have inflated the number.

Trump's own Department of Defense also debunked the claim, noting they took it as an offhand comment and did not regard it as a "direct order," with his own Chief of Staff Mark Meadows even confirming this statement from the Defense Department.

Donald Trump Continues Attacking Jack Smith

In his rant on New Year's Day, Trump also targeted Jack Smith and once again claimed he has immunity.

"The ridiculous Deranged Jack Smith case on Immunity, which the most respected legal minds in the Country say I am fully entitled to, is now completely compromised and should be thrown out and terminated, JUST LIKE THE RADICAL LEFT LUNATICS DID TO THE EVIDENCE," he wrote.

However, while the claim has yet to be decided on, legal experts have agreed that a president does not have absolute immunity, as seen by the Nixon case.

In regards to his falling to conspiracy theories to convince his supporters he is in the right, Yahoo! News pointed out that he has "resorted to the 'they lost my homework' legal strategy, which may reveal just how desperate he actually is."

Donald Trump Challenges Maine's Decision To Disqualify Him From State's Ballot

Meanwhile, as Trump rants, his attorneys have appealed the ruling by Maine's secretary of state which bars him from the state's 2024 ballot as stated in the 14th Amendment.

According to the Associated Press, Trump's attorneys argued that Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows had no authority, that he incited no riot, never swore to "support" the Constitution, and was not a government officer.

Trump and his attorneys are also expected to appeal a similar ban by the Colorado Supreme Court by using the same argument.
