Despite a Supreme Court ruling that favored the Biden administration, the Texas state government stated that it would continue placing razor wire along the US-Mexico border. This was confirmed by Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick during a recent interview.

"We are putting up wire, Martha, everywhere we can," said the Republican during his interview with Fox News' Martha MacCallum on Monday. "We will continue. We will not stop. If they cut it, we will replace it."

The statement came soon after the Supreme Court decided that Border Patrol agents could cut the razor wire set up by the state of Texas along the US-Mexico border in an effort to stop immigrants from crossing. These razor wires have proven ineffective in making migrants turn back, but they do hinder Border Patrol officials from doing their jobs and patrolling the border, especially along the Rio Grande.

Texas has disallowed federal officials from accessing certain areas of the border, leading to the Supreme Court finally stepping in and siding with the Biden administration.

According to The Hill, Lt. Gov. Patrick also threatened federal agents should they cut down the razor wire, despite the Supreme Court ruling, saying that there would be a "confrontation" should they do so.

"I was down there Friday with our troops to thank them, support them, and also to stand with them in the event the Biden administration did send Border Patrol there," he said in the interview. "Wisely, they did not. We're thankful they did not. We don't want a confrontation, but we want this border secure."

Texas Governor Greg Abbott Claims Razor Wire Will Help 'Fight Off' Invasion

Even though the Supreme Court sided with the Biden administration, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has been doubling down on his controversial "Operation Lone Star," which seeks to block migrants from coming into Texas, claiming that state law supersedes federal law.

As NPR noted, the controversial operation includes the deployment of thousands of National Guard troops along the US-Mexico border, as well as thousands of miles of razor wire and a floating barrier along the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass.

Despite these measures to try and dissuade migrants from crossing, however, they still cross, with a number of deaths already being attributed to Abbott's floating barriers, which a state court has previously ordered to be removed, pending appeal.

Operation Lone Star also received complaints from human rights groups after accusations of abuse as a bombshell report revealed that migrants were denied water under the searing summer heat, with others being pushed back by Texas officials after they crossed the Rio Grande.

Democrats Call on Joe Biden To Federalize Texas National Guard Amid Dispute With Greg Abbott

As Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has called on the Texas National Guard to help block off the border, even to federal agents, several Texas Democrats are telling Biden that he should federalize the Texas National Guard so they would not be under Abbott anymore.

"Governor Greg Abbott is using the Texas National Guard to obstruct and create chaos at the border," said Rep. Joaquin Castro of Texas. "If Abbott is defying yesterday's Supreme Court ruling ... [Biden] needs to establish sole federal control of the Texas National Guard now."

This was echoed by other Texas Democrats like Rep. Greg Cesar. However, the Biden administration has so far sidestepped the idea, with a White House spokesperson saying they have no decision on the matter yet.
